Have you tried verifying your game files on Steam? You can Google how to do this and I would recommend doing it 2x... this is the usual fix for this particular issue. Just a corrupted or missing game file. Let me know if I can be of any assistance!

I have this issue too -- I gave up playing today because I restarted my computer 4 times and it still wouldn't launch even with validating the files AND running compatibility mode. That *sometimes* fixes it after a few restarts, but it's never 100%. Sigh.

i'm also having the same issue. Verified files, Made compatible with windows 8/runs as administrator and my steam does as well. Everything i found on google i have tried, the only thing i have gotten to work is restarting my PC every time i want too play. and well i'm not trying to do that every single time just to play this game. This is the ONLY Game i have had this issue with or really any issues with, and i only have 7 hrs into it.

hey! so i did, still same issue

Happens to me too sometimes.
Mostly I can play just fine, two hours later it freezes on start. Did everything I could find, but nothing definitely resolves that problem. Only happens with that game (155 hrs in, so not unplayable).

Same. It locks my pc up as I can't kill the process so I have to reboot. Something very wrong with it.

I did find a some what of a fix which has helped me be able to start the game with no issues.
When you press the start button for Green Hell in the steam launcher, as soon as you press start, click on your steam launcher and move it around continuously until the game loads behind the steam launcher, once the black screen pops up behind the launcher just sit and wait few seconds and it should minimumize the launcher and the game should load properly.
I hope this works for you all if not atleast some. Don't ask how it works I have no idea. Makes no sense but that's how I do it every time I load the game now.

FACTS this just worked, make sure you set the launch parameter to -windowed in properties and do what he said once in game set it to windowed and off of exclusive full screen works every time now.
