Chained Ogre help
I don't think i'm very good at this game. I've died many times to basic enemies and i'm stuck at the Chained Ogre. I feel like I don't have enough health to beat him, both his grabs and his jumpkick all one shot me and I have 2 healing gourd charges for the other attacks. I've tried exploring for more upgrades but I was only able to find the Hirata Estate area with the spearman bossfight which seems even harder than the ogre. I noticed the shinobi grapple icon appearing on some of the ogre's attacks so I caught one of those moments thinking it would give me an advantage for a huge strike or something but I just shot my hook at him and nothing happened. I feel like i'm missing something i'm supposed to have already to make this fight managable but I can't find any other areas. Please help.

- take his 1 life with deathblow. Run or hide and wait for the music to end. Get behind him without being seen.

- You can burn him with Flame Vent. To do this, throw oil and burn him with Flame Vent. Search the internet for the location of Flame Vent.

Don't feel bad about dying. Everyone dies. A lot. You're far from alone. It's intended to be a tough game that requires practice.

Spy's advice is good. Also you mentioned his grapple point: I wouldn't bother trying to hit it. It only appears briefly when he bends over, and grappling on only staggers him for a second or so. Just focus on attacking and dodging instead.

For the spearman in Hirata Estate, get the Mikiri Counter skill. It will make that fight far far easier. The spearman is kind of intended as a tutorial for Mikiri Counters, but that's not explained very clearly.

you mean after he breaks free from the fence I can run away and sneak up on him in whatever position he goes back to? I'll try that thanks

Chained Ogre is one of the most fun and easier bosses in the game, i would suggest if you don't have access to oil & fire or fireworks, just take the fight slow. Learn how to dodge after getting a hit or 2. You need to create enough space all the time and then look for openings after he does a move, like a dodge kick or a grab

The problem with the game is if you are too close to an enemy and you try to dodge a grab sometimes it will suck you into a grab even with a perfectly timed dodge, your character will just get sucked in, it's super annoying but there is nothing you can do about it, so try and create space when possible. Once you learn all the moves he does and you beat him it will feel so rewarding.

Managed to get through Chained Ogre and am now struggling with Yamauchi but he feels alot more fair compared to Ogre tbh I don't think this one will take me so long

A lot of Sekiro boss fight is about having right prostetic tool, item or skill. Most bosses can be beaten without them, but having apropriate tool significatly reduces difficulty.

chained ogre is a annoying boss, and verry much unlike most other bosses. i have developed a consitent strat around him for my permadeath challenge run, where a single grab attack kills me. It's not a fun strat, but concidering how quick and deadly (and undeflectable) his short range grab is i don't really see how the agressive playstyle sekiro does well works for him.

The strat is simple. Only punish. and when you aren't attacking you should be running either away from him or around him. He does a attack and you run towards him, attack 1 to 3 times depending on the attack and how early you get to him (also if he is facing away you can often get in a extra hit), and then run away. The idea is that you want to be running away as soon as he can throw out another attack, in case it is the grab.

If he decides to not attack when you run away, to bait a attack you want to run towards him and then around him. He usually does another attack then, and since you will already be running around him he will miss (run away if you feel like you are in danger, like his kick and stomping combo is hard to punish unless you really know what you are doing). You can then punish a few hits, rince and repeat.

In generall trying to play agressivly does not work since if you need to do a 180 and start running the time those two animations play (+ human reaction time) is enough for the grab to land, making this hit and run strat the only concistent strat i have found, before this he used to be a run killer.

Againts chain ogre good idea to get the flame vent first.
Getting a health upgrade is possible if you explore the Hirate Estate well.

You can use invisible sugar and stealth blow him while he is still tied to chain or aggro, deaggro, and stealth blow first health bar.

For the second bar, you can do 2 hits and hit and run. Will take a while but it is safe.

But normally you can flame vent once, for the "fire scare" animation hit him a few times, then flame vent again for the "burn pain" animation hit him a few times this will likely break his poise so he gets the "staggered" animation hit him a few times.

During the "fire scare", "burn pain", and staggered animation he can not attack so you can do very high dmg in a short amount of time.

Just make sure he gets a hit at least every less than 7 seconds so his poise can not recharge.

Againts spearmens in general you can just grind a little bit and get the mikiri counter move.
Practise makes perfection! Take your time.

Learn their moves, crack the game open. Then start surfin'

Cheers.

Chain Ogre is a miniboss, he's in your path to get you to start thinking seriously about when to dodge unblockables and how to read enemies.

I mean, there's certain things you can exploit to make it easier, fire for example, any items that set enemies on fire will stagger them for a good while. You should also always, always ambush them first so you don't have to chew through two entire health bars.

Really, its only dangerous move is the grab, once you get the timing down to when you have have to side step it, the fight is effectively over.
