General Curiosity
To put it really plainly, I genuinely suck at this game. I got it after spending some time on elden ring and really liking the general combat system. Overall it kinda feels like a more difficult Jedi survivor instead of comparing to Elden Ring, not really sure if that makes sense. However, I am getting destroyed even in like the Ashina outskirts and it really kinda peeves me to think I'm THIS BAD. Is it really just a matter of patience and letting the fights run their course while learning like I did with Malenia? I guess the lack of as effective of a dodge is kinda irritating me, but besides that, I feel like I can see what I need to do but not execute.

To summarize, to git gud, do I need to just be patient and try not to get mad?

Thin them out.

Ashina outskirts already have many patrols. Easy to get mobbed and killed.
The Big Ogre can also be stealth killed.

If you are on a ledge or in a "corner cover" ceramic shard throw at a targeted enemy he goes to investigate and then do stealth kill.

By mid-game, you can use the invisible sugar so you can stealth even easier.

Learn where the alert enemies are and stealth kill them first.
Enemies are fixed so they are always there.

Get both stealth passives asap and the mikiri counter.
Working towards health gain on deathblows will save a lot of healing items.

Yeah, it is like a very hard difficulty Jedi Survivor.

Sekiro can outrun all enemies.

If you aggroed multiple ones some are more defensive so you can run and kill the fast ones.

Almost all sub-bosses can be stealth deathblowed so they have only 1 healthbar left.

The game has a huge learning curve I likely died around 150 times by the time I finished the game.

The game has a lot of Filter bosses likely the First one is the Chain Ogre.

In Sekiro you rarely want to dodge, it has fewer I-frames, NO I-frames againts sweeps and thurst, and enemies track better than in ER.

You usually want to deflect it is stronger than in souls.

Also holding down the block will increase your posture regen speed unlike in Souls.

If you jump over a sweep attack jump againts towards the enemy head to deal very strong posture dmg.So you usually want to be face to face to the enemy unlike souls.

This is actually a really helpful explanation and helped me a lot in understanding how to take enemies out around ashina, thank you so much. I also grabbed mikiri counter which helped a lot with one or two enemies that were bugging me. That and spending a hefty amount of time doing applied free combat with hanbei.

I found this game hair-pullingly, controller smashingly frustrating at first. Got to the first general in the outskirts and was going to give up frankly! It took a while before it "clicked" and I understood how I was supposed to play. Getting through the outskirts was extremely tough and I just couldn't understand what I was doing wrong. Turns out the key for me was understanding that you need to be both very aggressive on the bosses, getting as many hits in as possible, while also deflecting their attacks to build their posture. There's a definite rhythm to the combat and it will start to click the more you play. Stick with it, it's one of the best games I've played although it is continuously difficult!
