Demanding CPU usage
hey there,
I need some help beecause I have some problems with playing this game. When I was playing I have some stutters and a very high CPU usage. I saw a other guy on youtube which has a nearly same system, I have a RTX 4080 with Ryzen 7 7800x3D and he has an RX 7900 XTX and a Ryzen 7 7800x3D but he got nearly only the half of cpu usage and way smother game than me. Does anyone know a solution?

The vid from the guy I saw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLhA5TkPJ-E&t=3s

If you require some extra information please let me know.

do not run the clouds on ultra, its a unbelievable system tax for almost no visual gain but this game in general is pretty system intensive. Are you capping the frame rate at all? Im using a 13700k (i have to disable Ecores to avoid stuttering) with a 4090 and 64gb of ram and i keep my frame rate capped at 90

Hardware Unboxed did a settings guide for Odyssey, its a few years old but still relevant

What Fluffy_Llama said. Volumetric Clouds on the highest setting is broken and always has been. It will definitely cause stuttering on the highest setting and cause higher CPU usage

And many Ubisoft games are biased towards AMD graphics and the CPU usage is slightly higher with Nvidia GPUs for some reason but it shouldn't be enough to make any real big difference in game play.

Also with Windows 11 there seems to be some weirdness going on there with AMD Zen 4 and Zen 5 CPUs that affects some games more than others

You mentioned your high end system and I have a question, how high does your cpu usage go when you uncap your fps and how many fps you get? You have a better graphics card ofcourse than me but our cpus are very similar so maybe you could answer me my question.

And on which setting should I run the clouds? The 2. best?
Yeah high for clouds is fine, anything but ultra. How are you measuring your CPU use? In game benchmark tool or some sort of overlay? I normally use HWMonitor to keep an eye on temps but it does not log a average CPU use but instead just the min/max so that is not useful for this.
Ok i played for about an hour and max processor utilization was 69.3% on the P cores with a max temp of 76c (im using a Arctic 360mm AIO with Thermal Grizzly paste). Of course for true like to like comparison we would both need to be using the same resource monitor.

I did use geforce experience overlay or nvidia frameview
I'm running a 4070 Ti @ 1440p Ultrawide and a 5800X and I see average CPU of around 45-55% in Athens which is the most CPU intensive part of the game. I have everything maxed out except Volumetric Clouds turn down a notch and Depth of Field turned off plus I'm running a Reshade that costs about 5% of FPS

I also have the Ubisoft overlay turned off and Cloud Saves turned off and no RGB software running in the background

hey, thank you for your reply. Which OS are you running your system? Windows 11?

I will try your settings out to find out if my cpu usage gets better.

Edit:
Are your frames capped or unlimited?

Windows 10 .... Windows 11 = Windows 8 = Windows Vista = junk. Hopefully Win 12 comes out next year and saves us ...... Every other version of Windows is bad and that's been true for over 25 years. I went straight from Win 7 to Win 10 and hope to do the same again and go straight to Win 12

I'm unlimited and have a 165 Hz FreeSync monitor but I used to have a 60 Hz monitor ran unsynced getting between 70 - 80 FPS. In Valhalla I had to use Fast Sync in the Nvidia Control Panel or I would get tearing especially if I had DLDSR enabled

I have a super humble rtx 3070 Laptop with a 5800H CPU and I am playing the game at the ultra high preset at native 1440P getting 70 to 100 fps throughout the game world. All you need to do is turn on Ultra low latency mode for this game in control panel and it will eliminate the vast majority of CPU stutter related fluctuations.

Use DXVK basically for lower CPU load, higher GPU load AND higher fps.
Be aware you can't run a Reshade and DXVK at the same time because they both use a custom DLL that has the exact same name .... If you have a Reshade and install DXVK then you will break the Reshade and possibly the game will fail to start .... If you have DXVK installed and then install a Reshade then you will break DXVK .....
