PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING BUGS!
Hello, please read this short post before posting in Bug Reports!

Radeon GPU

Newer drivers on some Radeon GPU's don't seem to properly implement Vulkan - run in OpenGL mode if you have visual artifacts!

Before submitting your bug report

Most important of all - if you can't make the game run or the game randomly crashes (not related to a game event) during playing the game, you must DEFINITELY upgrade your graphics drivers. Just because Windows tells you in drivers it's up to date, doesn't mean they are. Go to your providers webpage and download and install latest drivers:

What to submit in your bug report

Please provide the following info, to make our life easier :)

  • what's your OS and graphics card (unless the bug is obviously gameplay) - the links above will help you determine what graphics card you have. For macOS see here - https://www.mackiev.com/techsupport/ht_vcard.html
  • if it was a crash there should be a file in the game folder starting with "crash_", please provide it
  • if it was a hang or the above doesn't exist, provide "log.txt" instead
  • on macOS and Linux additionally you could have "err.log" in your folder - if they are, please provide them!

You access your game folder by right-clicking on the game in Steam and selecting Properties then picking Local Files tab and "Browse Local files".

Vulkan specific

If your game doesn't run in Vulkan mode, but does in OpenGL, and your graphics card is old, there's a significant possibility that the graphics card simply doesn't support Vulkan. Currently we crash, but later we'll gracefull fallback to OpenGL - this is normal. You can check if your GPU supports Vulkan here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API)#Compatibility

My nvidia geforce gtx 550 ti (intel core i5-4570) is too old and can't run Vulkan. So to play a game i downloaded previous version of game which allow to disable vulcan before launch - from third party sites, merged files with steam ones, seem to work with hopefully all new gameplay content. Gonna wait for Vulkan disable feature. Big fan of DRL

Hey, you can launch with OpenGL!
When launching the game from Steam, a window shows up where you can pick whether you want to use the OpenGL or Vulkan renderer - simply pick the OpenGL option :)
Thank you! Didn't know. Sorry, I assumed there was no such option after reading this "Currently we crash, but later we'll gracefull fallback to OpenGL - this is normal"

Oh, indeed, that way of putting it might be misleading :)
Just found out It is --gl in launch options of steam for desktop shortcut.
EDIT: cause default desktop shortcut launch doesn't show OpenGL option, this window appears only when manually launching game from library.

hi, I picked up the game on GoG. It crashes when I try to launch it ( with Vulkan ) I have an Nvidia 1050gtx - it absolutely supports vulkan. I also noticed the Redist folder ( the folder that usually has stuff such as direct x runtime installers, active X, etc .) is completeley empty.
one is called ISI and is empty, the ohter is MSVC2017.
is there suypposed to be stuff there? This is the GoG build, mind you. Maybe a file or two is missing there?> thanks.

We need a crashlog, OS and version from you. But first try installing the Visual Studio 2017 redistributable ( https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/vs/older-downloads/ ) - as this might help (at the very bottom in "Redistributables and build tools"). We're fully independent of redists, unfortunately Lua which we use surprisingly isn't (this will be fixed in some later version). BTW, we do monitor the GOG forums as well.

i wouldn't link that particular site, it requires your microsoft login to download ( for some reason )

this one is legit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

also, I installed the VS files, and it still refuses to launch with vulkan.
windows 10
intel i7 cpu

Okay, I managed to get this working. I went into my registry, deleted the Vulkan folder there, and then reinstalled my GPU driver, works perfectly fine now.
i had already performed a clean installation of the gpu before, so it should've been fine. I guess a recent Windows update josteled some Nvidia users up a bit.

Steam won't let me post my logs. Is there an email I can send my crash logs to?

I have Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and game would crash with the laster Nvidia drivers.

I deleted Vulkan registry folder and ran the Vulkan Runtime Installer from
https://vulkan.lunarg.com/sdk/home#sdk/downloadConfirm/1.1.114.0/windows/VulkanSDK-1.1.114.0-Installer.exe

Restarted computer and now can run Jupiter Hell in Vulkan with no issues

Having some pretty serious stuttering issues, basically unplayable unless I want a headache. Several stutters a second, from the second i start the game, throughout the intro animation, at the menu menu, and in normal gameplay. Happens in both Vulkan and OpenGL renderers with no noticeable change in severity. Have also tried enabling/disabling ingame vsync to no benefit.

PC Specs:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Build 19044
MSI x570-A PRO, AMI BIOS 7C37vHL (Most recent)
AMD 5800X3D
32GB 3600MHz DDR4 RAM
RTX 3090 Ti, GeForce Game Ready Driver 536.67
1TB Samsung 980 PRO (Game installation drive)

Not sure how we're expected to post the log file. Can't attach files here, and the text contained in the file is longer than the character limit of a post.

Is there any way to submit my crash reports without posting to a public channel? It's unclear what metadata are in logs stored in the "crash_" folder, and I don't want to submit my specs or other data in a public channel.

Radeon RX 580 here, For some reason the game would run well with Vulkan in fullscreen, but crashes whenever I try to do windowed with lower resolution. OpenGL works in windowed, but when I try to swap back to fullscreen and launch in Vulkan it crashes.
