HELP - VC4 No game sound after installing DirectX
I had played through the first few chapters of VC4 with beautiful sound, and decided I wanted to re-download Dark Souls 2 to play again as well. However, after downloading DS2, the application would fail to open. Eventually after much troubleshooting, the solution that got DS2 up and running was downloading the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Microsoft, here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

But now, sadly VC4 will not play with any sound. The game otherwise runs fine, but I have essentially traded Valkyria Chronicles 4 for Dark Souls 2 and I would like to play both. This is a particularly bizarre problem, as other Steam games such as Left 4 Dead 2 and Dark Souls 2 still have sound. Per my testing, only Valkyria Chronicles 4 has lost sound. My computer is connected to a TV, and I do not use any external speakers.

Here are some troubleshooting steps I HAVE tried:
-Re-install VC4, verify game files through Steam
-Verifying that VC4 has "default device" selected in the in-game Sounds settings menu
-Checking my sound output device for driver updates (none needed)
-Giving Steam Run-As-Administrator privileges

Here are some things I have NOT tried yet:
-Uninstalling DirectX
-Re-installing Steam altogether

Any suggestions would be appreciated. My computer has been acting strangely after the latest Windows 10 update, but I don't want to give it the Yeller treatment yet...

Update 1:
I will post notable troubleshooting steps in case anyone else is ever in this niche scenario.

I uninstalled DirectX, and now DS2 still plays and VC4 still does not have sound. This tells me that the problem might actually lie with alterations to Windows that I made to get VC4 running in the first place (which happened a while ago, VC4 just wouldn't work properly 'out of the box'), and to get DS2 running recently. Reporting the changes I made would be difficult as I don't fully understand what I have done :(

I followed these steps to check for missing/corrupted system files:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e

No change. I even did a full Windows repair install:

Sadly a fresh Windows 10 install did not work. I busted out my old laptop running either Windows 7 or 8 and VC4 plays fine there.
