Muse Dash
playing with ps4 controller
tbf didn't expect it to be playable like that, both buttons and sticks are good, but definetly need time to get used to it, sailor suit kinda helped with that

so, i thought, has anyone used smth other than a keyboard?

I play exclusively on a gamepad and it is very convenient for me. On the contrary, I think that it would be easier to play on a gamepad. At least I think so
Some stages require 3 inputs at the same time, which I found impossible to do on the controller, I had I think 60h of gameplay on the controller and had to switch to keyboard, this game was designed to function with touch controls to begin with so maybe playing in the Steam Deck is the closest experience to the original.

But you can adapt I guess, not holding the control in the usual way, the game still is playble using two fingers if you're not tackling lv11 songs and some lv10 stages.
Haven't tried it personally but playing with a tablet should be pretty viable if you prefer touch controls.

You can play 10s and most 11s with 2 fingers per hand and in some cases even 11s are "playable" with 1 per hand.

Definitely isn't easy xD
Now I got curious to see somebody playing lv10~11 songs with a controller, dunno if someone have a record of it (showing their hands).

I switched my keyboard from switch blue to red and playing MD had become a pain, maybe I should try playing on the controller as well.
You can probably play higher stages on a gamepad, but pressing all face buttons at once is not going to be very comfortable for long. If you want a type of controller more optimal for the game an arcade or hitbox controller with a low-latency breakout board or encoder is ideal.
its more adventagious to play on cherry mx red switches but each on their own play how you feel comfortable.

you can do alot of inputs on pad easy it just depends on you hold it and how you move your fingers.

Also most adventagious would be a 8000hz polling rate mouse with side buttons and using turbo press features with a 4090OC uncapped FPS because frame rate matters when it comes to the latency also you'd want a monitor have a refresh rate of the fps youre hitting to avoid inaccuracies with screen teraing as well and you'd want a X3DX too with the game in highest priority mode so youre not losing any CPU power running your prephiral at max polling rate.
Also it would have to be an Nvidia GPU so you can permanently turn on Nvidia reflux Ultra
8000hz keyboard suffers compared to a 8000hz mouse.

At the end of the day play whatever works for you because if you want the most optimal set up it would be absurd

i play this game with just mouse + side buttons only unless on steamdeck and i just use the pad buttons and its easy even on level 10, no means a god gamer but i can at least constant regular S songs all my mistakes are usually 99.9% my own skill issue.

Mind sharing some more tips? Since I switched my keyboard to switch red I can't play the game anymore, it's like if I'm playing on soap! For horizontal rhythm games my performance improved.

if you mean PC overall latency reduction? Nvidia control panel - Manage 3settings - Low latency mode - on or Ultra. and keep FPS high as possible under refresh rate by 1 or double refresh rate you can just leave it uncapped but screen tearing inconsistency can cause problems https://i.imgur.com/lJKwKVa.png Good diagram explaining entire system latency overall and why its good to have high FPS and High refresh rate etc.

If you mean peripheral assistance, for pad each side of of the controller registers that button so so i mostly just use Dpad + L1 and X+O + R1, anything rapid i usually will slide/ roll my finger around needed buttons because its faster than an actual motion press but generally with that layout you should be able to hold using just 3 fingers when needed (I should mention i use DS4, as the other 2 option controllers would be worse for me personally (xbox/switch))

if you mean keyboard you could be struggling just because youre not used to the less pressure required and distance traveled when you swapped to reds if you played a long time on a different one, or maybe youre just not getting the same feedback you used to get so youre timings are off.

me Personally have most of the game rapid binded to my entire mouse and my mouse buttons and i ever can change my mouse scolls to clicks and i will say I can scroll my scroll wheel faster than anyone can hit keys on a keyboard, problem is how well one person can control it and be accurate with it I also have all my side buttons bound to different clicks though it does look like im trying to not chop my fingers off holding an onion everytime i play this game lmao; I will say if the tempo of the song goes lower/slower it ♥♥♥♥♥ me a lot just because going 2 fast for something slow, so it takes adjusting per song (though i assume years of playing piano has given me the ability to play awkwardly like this)

Biggest problem when it comes to PC is people really forget how much literally everything is customizable because effort

I mostly just use MX silver for when i play FPS games though :) and at the end of the day its all what you personally can adjust too when it comes to peripherals, and how many awkward set ups and positions you personally can deal with/adjust too.

The most super optimal set up doesnt even matter cause in no situation does anyone will want to be pulling an additional 0.34568 milliseconds of latency reduction; when you start hitting the microsecond you realize how absurd it gets

I play on keyboard, my previous was with blue switch and I absolutely despise how loud that thing is! I got a new keyboard with red switch (less pressure, from just slide my fingers on the keyboard it already compute a key press).

You mentioned FPS high as possible, I always played at 165fps but I had to lower to 60fps recently because Touhou (Damnku Kagura) is umplayable at higher FPS, so maybe this is my issue, I will raise again and do some tests, thanks a lot.

Thanks, it was the frame rate! When I go back to 165fps the gameplay went way more smoother! Thanks a lot!
Acutally some sections is easy with this keyboard lol, but I could never had guessed that frame rate could be a huge impact.
