Thats crap. The one genre VR makes sense and new titles dont support it.

I've been playing Assetto Corsa for a while in VR and now I Can't go back to playing it in desktop mode (No Joke)

Dakar 18 is developed in UE4 which have native support for VR and they don't wanna add it?

Sorry but for me is a big NO GO then.

Oh wait !!! Maybe they add it later in a DLC..... :pooplaugh:

Yeah, sim racing and VR are white on rice.

The usual argument is "there aren't enough people with VR headsets to justify development" but judging by the number of racing setups in the simracing subreddit that use a VR headset, simracing has an outsized proportion of VR users.

Also judging by the number of indie games using UE4 and SteamVR it can't really be that hard to implement. I have a game called Balloon Saga that I bought for 65 cents. It's made by a single person and he added VR to the game in one week after someone on the forums asked for it. Valve wrote the SteamVR API to be really easy to use in UE4 and Unity.

Anyway, I guess I'll be sticking with Dirt Rally and Pcars 2 for now. I'll probably check out AC: Competizione when it comes out since it will have VR support on day one.

Lucky me to prefer no VR.
Looking forward to this title, I'll support it.

For racing games/sims the increase in immersion is huge in VR. For me it's a must.
Even if i'm quite interested in the Dakar game, but sorry to say that ....... no VR, no buy.

@Developers: Please implement VR. Your game deserves it.

This is the 1st decent VR discussion I've read in months.

I'm so into VR now I just can't play pancake racing games anymore. I even got myself an Ultrawide to try to make it feel better. Didn't work at all.

Such a shame they wont be supporting VR. It just simply wont work for me either.

What other open world VR driving games are there? I can't think of 1. Wink wink.

VR only in Dakar '19... it's sad i know.. but its reality.
It is definitely something we want to do. We've said that from the start. But it's not an easy task. We're reenacting the real event. That means we're stuck to the real environments in one of the biggest - if not THE biggest - open worlds ever created for a racing game. The sheer size of the map and the huge draw distances we have make the task of developing a VR version of the game not an easy one - and, as it was said already, it's hard to justify the investment in doing so for now.

It's still something we want to do and we'd like to include it for DAKAR 19. If it gets ready on time and if we find it can be added to DAKAR 18, we'll patch it in too. No promises. We know it's great and we want to do it but this isn't just another track-based racing game where you know for sure where the player is going to drive... you have places where you can see for miles and miles and that's an important part of navigation.

Hi Mota. Thanks for the reply! We appreciate it. What exactly has the size of the map to do with VR implementation? To me, VR in this scenario just means that the player can move the ingame camera by moving his head. Nothing more. We've seen trailers for DAKAR 18 where the player in the cockpit can move his head with... the mouse/gamepad? why not with a VR headset?
I am just curious :-)
