Game crashing when chaning resolution (even when changing ini file)
I think I might have permanently screwed up the game files and don't know how to fix it. In the past the original game worked fine at 1440p when I added a custom resolution to the ini file. But out of nowhere the game is now crashing every time I change the resolution from 1024x768 and editing it via the bioshock.ini file doesn't work anymore. I can set it up in the settings but The game crashes every time I hit apply. It seems to sort of work when I'm in windowed mode but when I click fullscreen it crashes. I've tried verifying integrity of the files, reinstalling the game. deleting the game folder and everything in it and reinstalling all with no luck.

Is there any way to truly reset the game files? Deleting them manually doesn't seem to work.

There is a Running.ini that recreates/edits the other ini files. Delete it before editing other inis or launching the game. Once you setup the inis how you want them, rightclick > properties > check read-only > apply. Now the game won't mess with them but you can't use the in-game options screen anymore. That's ok because you already setup the inis. The last step is to rightclick Bioshock.exe > properties > compatibility tab > check run in 640x480 > check disable fullscreen optimizations > apply.

If you've done a lot of tinkering already, might be best to start with a clean slate: uninstall > reinstall > verify integrity of files > then follow the above directions. Good luck!
