The Penrose Hotel has been known to send even the most battle hardened minds into meltdown. The mixture of colour orientated puzzles, unsettling hotel guests and our daily schedule really took their toll on Day9TV when he checked in to The Spectrum Retreat.

Behind the Scenes: Developer Commentary Video

Hey everyone,

We have a quick update to share with you today in the form of over 10 minutes of gameplay from The Spectrum Retreat, with commentary from the developer Dan Smith. Check out the video to get a closer look at The Penrose hotel and to hear about the design and development process for the puzzles within the game.

Dan has been working on The Spectrum Retreat for over 5 years and won a BAFTA for the prototype 'Spectrum'. A mix of narrative riddles and puzzles have been combined to create a unique experience that we are really excited for you to try.

Announcing The Spectrum Retreat - Coming Summer 2018

Hey everyone,

We’re really excited to announce The Spectrum Retreat, a narrative driven first-person puzzle game developed by Dan Smith Studios. The game has been in development for 5 years, with the prototype winning the BAFTA YGD Game Making Award in 2016 when Dan was just 18 years old.

Upon check-in to The Penrose hotel it becomes clear than not all is as it seems. Your exploration of the hotel begins to uncover the reality of your current situation, but your desire to uncover the truth is obstructed by a series of puzzles, physics challenges and narrative riddles.

Today we’re sharing a first look at the unsettling environment that sits at the core of The Spectrum Retreat and also a taster of the challenging puzzles you will face during your stay.
