A glorified Hidden Objects game with a 3rd rate save system.

I can't stand corporate turds that respawn you 3 kms away from where you ran out of ammo, as if I have nothing better to do than run all the way back there then waste 10 more minutes looking for which precise house I was trying to investigate.
This softwaste is so moronic that it thinks it offers a manual Save, one that doesn't fulfil any of its job's descriptions, like storing the avatar's location, or the garbage he's unenthusiastically collected.
Looking for a core loop ? Enjoy the chore loop instead.

Too bad, there were positives to point out.
Like a few good investigation mechanics. They don't reach their full potential, far from it: too many logical steps overlooked, too many obvious questions one cannot ask... but at least the CoC detective vibe is occasionally found.
Also, like the city itself, original, atmospheric, open, and vast, albeit sparsely interactive.
(Of course, flooded streets are just another wasted good idea when, thanks to the console checkpoints fiasco, exploration is dead in the water.)

This could have been a good game with no (or rare) combat: its implementation is poor, for one things; the abundance and ubiquity of monsters (which endlessly respawn) kill the Lovecraftian expectations; their daily cohabitation with humans defies logic, tension, world-building, and more...

Anyway, that was Frogwares' last chance.
They still can't grasp the basics after all these years, so I won't waste a single more penny on them, however large the justified discount.

PS: Another flaw is that, to simulate sanity losses, the devs opted to make the player physically ill. Never a good idea. I was able to suppress the motion sickness the camera permanently causes. thanks to a FoV hack found on this forum (there is no slider in game,) but I couldn't find anything to fix the psychotropic abuse, short of actual breaks,

Great atmosphere, story, dialogues. Good enough gameplay, though repeatable.

This game is fun and entertaining a new spin on the Cthulhu mythos imo. Its not the best game in the world, walking is a little weird, I first got this game on switch and omg shooting on the switch joycons is a nightmare. This current playthrough on PC I'm using an Xbox elite controller and its actually a playable game. It could be better but I've seen a whole lot worse. At least its fun and the story makes me want to keep playiing, even the side quests are well written. I will say as someone who is not great at third person shooters, I do suck at hitting targets and you NEED TO CONSERVE YOUR AMMO. However you can find plenty of supplies in the world.
