There are heavy spoilers in this post! You have been warned!!!

I know it is supposed to be understood that The Crooked Man is specifically the spirit of Duke MacGahan, but I think there are bits of evidence that go against that. The biggest piece is the note in the hospital about the man that hangs himself because "something is chasing him" and the doctor that seemingly follows suit. If I recall correctly, Duke doesn't kill himself until only a year or so prior to the story of the game. Since Duke visits the hospital AFTER it is abandoned, this man that is being chased must have died several years prior to Duke's death. Now, it is possible there is a similar vengeful spirit doing the same thing as The Crooked Man, but it seems like it's the same entity.

Has there been anything said officially about the true identity of the spirit? Is it an entity that takes the form of its most recent victim? Just curious about what's out there.
