A fine RTS with an interesting twist. I played singleplayer only, and the campaigns were good. Wish there had been even more campaign missions. Only downside is that my own units may be a bit too stupid sometimes.

Now for the detailed talk.
In a standard RTS, every single unit needs to be micro managed. This game however has all units manage themselves mostly, and you as the commander pay money to create orders that random (and compatible) units may go and perform if they feel like it. You are also in charge of casting a bunch of support spells, as well as the construction and use of buildings.

For the most part, the order system will get things done in a reasonably efficient way. But when things do not go as planned it can cause some frustration. There have been planety of times when my units almost does something useful, and then turn around and go to do something less usefull. As an example, there are Dragon Nests here and there that produce one singular dragon as a guardian. If that dragon is killed, the Nest will slowly produce a new dragon as a replacement. Killing the dragon and then claiming ownership of the Nest will stop those dragons from spawning and is very usefull for you. However, my units often kill the dragon but then go and do something else instead of claiming the Nest, allowing a new dragon to spawn.

Another interesting thing with this game is how the maps are made up of a large amount of floating islands, and using magic each island can be moved around or have its biome changed. There are even magics for creating whole new islands, as well as exploding an existing island to remove it from the game. This allows the player (and the AI opponents/allies) to slowly reshape the entire game map. I do like this very much (but man the bridges you build between islands are short!)

The single player campaign is split into four parts, one for each playable race. The first three can be played in any order, while the fourth has to be unlocked by completing all the other parts. All parts together tell a single story from different perspectives, and I found it rather good. My only real complaint about the campaign is that the difficulty goes up and down seemingly at random. The example that comes to mind are the two last missions of the entire campaign, where the second to last mission has a twist that makes it really challenging, but the final mission is a piece of cake in comparison.
I do wish there had been more missions in the campaign though...
