It was just delisted on the Xbox One/Series Marketplace at the same time as the closure of the Xbox 360 Marketplace (Even though the game is amongst the most supported & enhanced of the Xbox 360 BackCompat catalogue). Hopefully, it won't take Sonic x Shadow Generations having a bad launch to see it return or otherwise prevent it being delisted from Steam.
Agreed. For now it is safe, but if we go by past actions SEGA has done to the series, they have removed older versions of games before. For example, they removed sonic 1-3 when Sonic Origins came out. Im suprised they did not do this when the Plus version of Origins or Mania when they came out...as i see the original versions are still up.
i always hate when games get delisted. It does not help with game preservation. i think even older games should be preserved to show the technical growth of technology in video games.
Also, it got delisted off xbox x and y series storefronts also.
This really hurt a lot of 7th gen console games including this game where only 360 and PC versions could be played on modern hardware. It was also never released on Wii or Wii U, and even if it was, the Switch isn't compatible with either.
My point is, had the PS4/5 been backwards compatible with PS3 discs and both the XBOX One and PS4 had BC from the start, I don't think a remaster would be nearly as likely to happen except maybe a port to the Switch just to make it available for Nintendo players.
