This game sucks
This game aged horribly
Edit: guess i need to explain why this game sucks instead of just being vague. The controls are abyssal and make going anywhere a pain. Ive used xbox controllers, playstation controllers, and keyboard and mouse but everytime the controls and movement were annoying. The visuals are bad and animations arent finished at all. Sonic especially has the worst facial animations. Watching him struggle to speak hurts my eyes as he contorts his mouth into strange shapes that is supposed to resemble him talking. Theres really no handholding in this game and ive found myself lost and wandering around many times. I dont expect ubisoft level handholding but having to wander around looking for the next level like an idiot isnt gameplay. The levels are just plain boring and stale. The story is just basic. You know how great games are ahead of their time? Well this game was behind its time. 1998 had so many great games. This is not one of them. This game was not worth my 2 dollars.

It's janky as hell, but there is some fun to be had, and with most of the cast only having mini-campaigns, the gameplay gimmicks don't overstay their welcome.

If you compare it to many N64 titles from the same time I would say it's doing pretty well.

Sadly Sega made the game slightly buggier with every new release.

The game is fun as hell; it just has a whole lot of weird bugs and bad/lazy animation and stuff.

lets compare it to mario 64... mario 64 is still more playable and its before this janky game..

Who cares.. I still enjoy Sonic adventure more than Super Mario 64.

this game is super easy. The controls have nothing to do with skill. Its just bad controls that make gameplay worse.

Gotta add that some of the character's stories are significantly better than others. Amy, e-102 and BIG are so good.
Also for Sonic himself, I feel like the quality of the game is extremely back-loaded. His later stages are some of the best in the genre.

I do agree however, that generally, the game deserves harsher criticisms.
