Many are probably hoping that the new renderer coming for the first game will improve the overall look of the game like the proof of concept models Beamdog released but since it was only those 2 character models and some HD weapons so far with no new pictures since it is really hard to say what we may actually get.
Indeed NWN2 was a broken mess in every way.
The only broken thing I encountered back then was the party AI not responding and that's pretty much it.
I've never had any troubles with scripts not triggering, whether it was the original release or the GoG version. At least not for any of the official campaigns (sometimes you have to debug community mods, but that's true for NWN as well). Optimization problems, sure, but they're less of an issue on a modern system.

I see you never tried using NWN2 editor to make your own mod.
You'd be singing a different tune right now ;)
I was marking the games on their original campaign. I heard the NWN expansions were good. But the main NWN campaign is just formulaic fetch quests. What was really disappointing was that you only had one character and the single NPC was poor. After the delights of the Baldur's Gate Trilogy it was a bit of a disappointment.

Original and best
Honestly, seems to be one of those 'feast or famine' things depending on your system and all sorts of factors. I've replayed the game + expansions about 3-4 times, and barely had a crash or two.
My brother installed the base game once near launch, and it nearly bricked his system. Had to do a full windows reinstall.
Love it that game to bits, warts and all, but that's the pattern I've heard among other players too. Either they get one or two little problems barely worth mentioning... or it's a road-trip to hell and back while bugs pop up like grass after rain. Nothing in between.
