Hacker Evolution - Untold

Hacker Evolution - Untold

Crashing
I've sent this issue off both to the support section on Exosyphen's site and an email address of one of the employees(Robert) but as of yet I've received no response so I'm going to post my problem here to see if any of you guys know what the issue may be.

I've purchased all the hacker evolution games and I am enjoying them a lot, I completed the normal Hacker Evolution on my desktop computer with no crashing issues at all.
I then played a few stages of Hacker Evolution:Untold on my laptop with no issues at all. When I got access to my desktop again, I transferred my saved file over and have had nothing but problems since.
First issue I had was with the audio engine, when the game reached the "hemusic2-djvelocity-intuition.mp3" or "hemusic-djvelocity-plasma.mp3" it would crash the whole game, to fix this I imported the corresponding MP3's for those songs from the previous game as .ogg and they seem to be working fine now.
I've since been having weird issues such as audio cutting out during the 10 second countdown when being traced but that isn't really a big problem.

The most annoying problem I'm having now is a random crash which is happening, it usually happens when I'm being traced but sometimes won't happen at all throughout a whole level, the Windows Event Viewer error logs are telling me the reason it crashed was due to "SDL2_mixer.dll"

This is the error it logged:
Faulting application name: Hacker Evolution Untold.exe, version: 4.1.0.0, time stamp: 0x537e6afb

I've tried verifying the integrity of my files but still no joy, any idea what I can do to play this uninterrupted on my computer? If it helps I am running Windows 8.1

I have received your feedback and I am investigating this.

Do you have some "special" audio card? The crash is caused by something in the audio card drivers at first look.

Ah lovely, thank you.

On my PC I have an external sound card in the form of a Soundblaster: http://uk.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blasteraxx-sbx-8

I have also recently transferred my save back to my laptop again and am receiving what seems to be exactly the same problem, crashing with sound files, when replaced random crashes in the game. I do not use the Soundblaster on my laptop.

Hi,
I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms you describe Nick on my desktop. I get the brief audio cut outs during the 10 second countdown and the game hangs towards the end of the tutorial level (Hacker Evolution Untold). I'm not sure whether it ties in to the music files you mention. I had it hang in the same way last night on my laptop too. I do not have a dedicated sound card in either machine. The desktop is Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium with onboard sound on a Asus Z87-K motherboard (Intel i5-4670K + 16GB memory). I have not transferred save files between machines, I'm just starting a new game.

Here is the data captured from EventViewer

The game just hangs. Mouse won't move, no keypresses except CTRL-ALT-DEL work.

Please let me know if I can supply more information.
Cheers,
Mark

I am working on this issue right now.
marky1124 28 May, 2014 @ 1:46pm
Thanks Robert. When it crashed before I was in full screen, having read another thread I decided to try windowed mode. It still crashed at a point when one music track was ending and another starting. I'm guessing as Nick suggested the crash occurs with certain tracks since this time I was able to play through to almost the end of level 2.

In case it's any help here's the information from event viewer

Was a patch for the game released recently? It's weird since it was working fine but then suddenly just stopped and I started experiencing these issues.

There was a BIG UPDATE released :)
Nick Wyn 29 May, 2014 @ 3:32am
Ah yes, I can see the news of it here:
http://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=70110

Is there any way I could roll back the update? Or do you have a timescale on when you will complete this fix? :)
qgar 29 May, 2014 @ 4:29pm
Same here. It's my first adventure with Hacker Evolution, so i can't tell whether it was working fine earlier, but currently the game crashes with symptopms like the ones described above. My laptop is Dell Studio 1745 with Windows 7 Home Premium x64, no external sound/video cards.

EventLog also reports similar data - Fault offset: 0x000071a5

Just to update you guys, Exosyphen said in an email that a patch to fix this should hopefully be available by/on the weekend.
Ⓐnonymous 2 Jun, 2014 @ 1:27am
I've been experiencing crashes like these too (usually when I'm well within a mission). Has that weekend patch happened yet? If not, any ETA? Or maybe any possibility of rolling back that big update?
exosyphen  [developer] 5 Jun, 2014 @ 1:11am
You can't roll back the update.
From the looks of it, it's caused by the SDL audio library. I am investigating this more indepth.
NoCookiesForYou 7 Jun, 2014 @ 11:29pm
Yeah, I'm having these crashes also. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with Asus Xonar D2X soundcard. When I started having these crashes I switched back to internal soundcard, but that didn't stop the crashes.

Crashing too here, level 2, random moments. I found somewhere that adding the game to ffdshow audio decoder exception list (if ffdshow is installed) should help, but it doesn't.
Also, when the lady is counting down and the ticking is in the background her words get cut off :/
bruiser419 12 Jun, 2014 @ 12:01pm
I keep crashing on level 3. Usually tends to happen towards the end. Same here also with the lady counting effect form the post above.
