Mothman isn't happening, at least "for now." They stopped development, according to their discord; or rather, "paused" development indefinitely due to "funding" issues.
Hey everybody!
Some of you may have noticed there has been a lack of updates in 2024, and we'd like to be fully transparent about why that's the case. The short answer is: due to decreased sales, ongoing dev costs, and Smirk’s busy schedule, Folklore Hunter is halting development for the time being. I want to assure you all, this is not a decision we wanted to make and it was not made lightly.
SmirkStick released Folklore Hunter in February 2020. His vision was a hunting game with tracking mechanics that focused more on creatures within Folklore, than creatures in real life. Within a few months after release, several YouTubers picked up the game and it rapidly grew in popularity. From this, a decision was made to increase the scope of the project to feature two more cryptids in unique story missions. However, due to circumstances outside of the game's production development started to slow, so in February 2022, I was brought on board. I was a huge fan of the game at this point, so being able to work on Folklore Hunter was a dream come true. Fairly quickly we were able to finish the second cryptid, the Strigoi, and fully polish the first, the Wendigo.
While we are proud of how far Folklore Hunter has come, unfortunately due to development costs, production issues and time constraints we have not been able to deliver the game we envisioned.
And so, it is with a heavy heart that I say we will be pausing development on Folklore Hunter for the time being.
So what does this mean for the future of Folklore Hunter and Liquid Donkey Games?
Well, the game is not being abandoned. We wholeheartedly love this game, and hope to be in a position to continue its development in the future.
The ongoing support we've received from all of you has meant the world to us. I've made many friends from my time in this community. Thank you all so much for the support.
