Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Deus Ex: GOTY vs Deus Ex: Revision vs Other mods
Between the three options:
1. Deus Ex: GOTY
2. Deus Ex: Revision
3. Any other Deus Ex mods on Steam

What is the best option for someone new to this game, and why?

I'm guessing I should stick to the original classic game if the graphics don't bother me too much, right?

GOTY with Kentie's launcher and GOTY with DX Transcended are both viable options for a "original" playthrough on a modern computer, but since you're only considering mods on Steam, I assume you don't trust your ability to download and install non-Steam mods. If so, Revision remains the best choice, just select original maps and vanilla game mode (vs Biomos or Shifter) in settings, Original soundtracks and turning off New Vision and/or HDTP graphic packs - at your own discretion.

Revision. Even comes with an official Steam release with achievements. You can select the vanilla maps etc in the settings.

Just to get the game up and running:

Kenties deus exe launcher: kentie.net

And get either the direct3d10 renderer from the same site, or try one of the opengl or direct3d9 renderers from https://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/ (everyone's pc is different, so whichever works best for you)

Put the files in your deus ex/system folder, replace the deusex.exe file with the launcher and set your renderer from the launcher window and your good to go.

Other mods to consider later on down the track in my opinion would be shifter, biomod, gmdx and my personal favourite "the nameless mod"

Revision is a makeover mod that removes a considerable amount of lighting from a game that's already too dark, as well as other entirely arbitrary changes. I consider it a blindness simulator ... I recommend you ignore it entirely.

Just get Kentie's and a DX10 renderer.

The GMDX mod and stability things (launcher, etc).

gmdx, period. No need to explain
and yes Kentie's and the renderer to make the whole thing still work

yup, stick to vanilla, all of the other mods have silly weapon rebalancing based on the mod maker's preferences, this rule applies to other moddable games too, not just DX.
