Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

Resolution problems and black screen *SOLVED*
I tried the 'Window' and '1920 x 1080' trick but now I get a black screen. I then changed the game render to 'OpenGL' and still, to no avail. Turned Eax to '0' - still it persists and I can't get past the first cutscene in the game because there's nothing displayed (I can only hear audio!!).

[Edit]:
Solved -- refer to post #14 in this thread OR change "shadow detail" from 2 to 0 as post #19 says (untested).

Hi,
I tried to play Hitman 2 in 1080p but it's nearly impossible. Framerate drops a lot.
If you want to try modify hitman.ini change the following line...
Window 1 Resolution 1920x1080

It pains me a lot because I managed to play Hitman 1 in 1080p but I can't with Hitman 2...

Yeah same. Really disappointing. Hitman's 2 videos don't work at modern resolutions. So I'm stuck playing on 1280 x 1024 resolution (the highest the configurator will go). Unfortunately it's fullscreen and stretched... not that bad --> but wish I could fix the problem.

Go to your install folder and find the file titled Hitman2.ini and open it with Notepad. Before altering it, save an extra backup copy so you don't screw it up, then copy all this over what's already in there. I got it to run in full 1080p at normal framerate and speeds.

The .ini posted by YellowJellow solved this problem for me. Thanks!

Using YellowJello's settings, everything look great except Hitman himself is all black unless facing a certain direction. Have tried adjusting some settings, but nothing changes the black. It's like all the textures on Hitman himself disappear.

Using Radeon 5870 card. Any suggestions for changing the catalyst setting to fix this?

Thanks in advance!
That's my problem too. The main man, is black, in certain directions. Everything else looks and works fine.

It only appliest to certain levels. Skipped ahead to future ones, where there's no lighting, and agent 47 is not black. I guess I'll have to stick to D3D render and 1280 x 1024 resolution :)

Once I change the ini file, I have the same problem with agent 47 becoming all black. It seems to happen to other characters as well (haven't moved forward since I don't want to play like this). I have an Nvidia card, so it does not seem like an ATI issue.

To fix the characters turning black after using the above ini file, change the line in the ini from DrawDll RenderOpenGL.dll to DrawDll RenderD3D.dll

Thanks Elvis...That did fix the "black textures" but now Hitman seems to be moving in slow motion and occassionally I'm getting freezes, although Fraps reports high frame rates. For now I'll live with playing the game stretched. It sucks, but it's still playable.

Yes. I'm having the same issue. I replied too soon, I guess. It's really frustrating. I've figured out that what is causing the odd behavior seems to be running it in Windowed mode. Even if I use the default ini and run it windowed to avoid stretching, I still have all of these same issues. It sucks very much. One of my favorite games, too.

i also have a HD5870 and used this .ini data and it works great.
just turned on antialiasing, otherwise everything else left like it was pasted.

SM7 have you updated to the new catalyst drivers?

Has anyone ever found a solution for this? I tried various fixes from this and other threads, but I can never get past the first cutscene (after clicking "Start" and choosing a difficulty). The screen is always black (even with the ini file posted above), with music playing in the background.

I'm using a Radeon HD 7970M on a Windows 7 64bit system.
CHECK THE NEWEST HITMAN 2 THREAD for a widescreen fix that fixes FoV, has no black cutscenes or character models and/or FPS lag. It defaults the resolution to 1920 x 1080.

Does it work with Windows 8.1 is this game compatible with it?
