Can a trade route be used to fulfill a haulage contract?

Yes you can. The contract have no restriction about how the resources are transported.

Follow-up question: if you have an active delivery contract in a sector and one of your automated traders arrive there to sell the required resource, is the trading ship smart enough to prioritize selling to the station with the active contract first, so the contract is actually fulfilled?
