super super fun game if u like diablo 3 buy it

Outriders is a bit of a funny game in that it seemed to come out with a lot of hype, then it was quickly met with a backlash then basically died a quick death without anyone speaking about it again.

Which is a bit of a shame because it's an incredible looter shooter, it is bogged down with issues but as it's not a live service game it is easy to pick up and play. I've been playing the dlc on steam as I've 100% the base game on ps5 and Xbox but I just really lover both looter games and 3rd person shooters and finding something like that which isn't the divison (do also love that) is tough and you'd be surprised how hard it is to find games like borderlands or the divison.

So what makes outriders a fun experience? Well for me it's power fantasy and the buildup to that, you start playing it as basically a gears rip off and you spend the opening hours hidden behind cover, when you hit endgame you are an unstoppable god of destruction. It's one of those rare games that let's you go nuts with power but it still offers challenges so it's not boring.

I think it's fair to mention that shooting in this game is also incredibly satisfying and the variety of guns is overwhelming. What makes this game special is that you can also take any mod from any gun and apply it to whatever gun you want, so if you have a mod that rains down meteorites you can scrap that gun and keep that mod forever and apply it to any gun going forward.

The game does have a fairly lengthy campaign and after doing about 5 playthroughs I can say it is pretty decent, it has enough interesting things happening to keep you going and the lore is intriguing. What I don't like are the characters and writing, they are one note with cringe dialogue, it's a fun story but gets old after a few playthroughs.

Endgame is quite repetitive, it has been greatly improved since launch and the additional endgame content added from the dlc gives this game a much needed boost of variety, however despite getting one really strong endgame dungeon it is still only one with little variety so the game gets old quick.

Fun but forgettable is how I'd describe this game. It's always something I'll return to but it never has me stick around for long, it's a shame it's been abandoned as a few more dungeons and endgame activities could've kept this game alive but alas that's not the case.

If you play this game for the sci-fi story and quit at the end boss, it is one of the best games I have played. The story is linear, not much choice, but it is excellent. However, after that this game falls into an abyss worse than any game I have ever played. It should not be possible for a game to fail as massively as this one, how the creators pulled it off is beyond me. The "end game" is one of the worst grinds possible. There is no fun ending where you feel like a end game boss and can steam roll the levels. You end up having to start a new class over and over just to try and get some fun out of it.

When the game goes on a massive sale, might be worth it. Just play through the story and uninstall.
