When this mod will NOT require original Half-Life on steam?Or how to get this mod on Box version of Half-Life?

It's the fate of mods on Steam, you need to own the base game. It's the same for mods hosted elsewhere. GoldSrc is a proprietary engine.

Another problem is that, from what I've read, the mod wouldn't work on old engine versions at all, so the disk version wouldn't cut it.

WON HL is technically a slightly different game engine from Steam HL right?
