No, HL Source runs on Source engine, while C.A.G.E.D. is on Goldsource engine, so no, you need HL1 for this to work!

Half-Life Source is horribly broken anyway...

It's not that it's "broken"... it's basically a port, which is why it feels like it's the unwanted child. If you want to play "Half-Life" on Source, go "Black Mesa" -- those guys actually did put in the time and attention the game deserves into a Source version...

and yes i'm aware of black mesa and i've played it many times, it's a really well made re-imagination of the original.

Honestly? I got it, played through it once to see if they introduced anything new (they didn't), or if they upgraded it at all (they haven't), and... it's sort of there, like the uncle we don't invite any more... ;-] If something broke it, I wouldn't have noticed.

Well to be fair it wasn't that bad when it initially released. Really most of the damage came after 2013. There are videos on YouTube that show the differences I think

i found a version outside of steam of the original hl1 and it always bugged itself so i couldnt see the gameplay at all but i could see the menu and black mesa is very laggy so half life source is my only option

I played the original Half-Life outside of STEAM, so... you must've had a very old (or broken?) version. Find the updates and patch up to v1.1.1.1 - should be fine.
