FIRST THINGS TO CHECK:

Do you own the game Half-Life in your steam Library?
  • The original Valve game Half-Life is required of your Steam account to be able to install and play Half-Life: C.A.G.E.D.

Launch the base game Half-Life.
  • launch the base Valve game Half-Life. Does your problem Persist? Is it unique to Half-Life: C.A.G.E.D. or all Half-Life products?

Verify the integrity of your Half-Life: C.A.G.E.D. game files.
  • In steam library, right-click the game and go to Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity Of Game Files.

Custom modifications, Console commands, or Launch Options may interfere with the game.
  • Attempt to run the game Vanilla without any custom options or mods first. Custom config files from other half-life games or mods may be causing unexpected results.

Make sure you are using the OpenGL Render Mode.
  • The Software mode is problematic for many users and can result in poor performance. Go to Options->Video-> Renderer and set it to OpenGL.


Specific Problems:

  • Problem: Changing resolution results in graphical error.

    Possible solution(s):
    This issue it is often alleviated by closing and re -opening the application after the new resolution is set.

    Try launching the application in windowed mode. In Steam right-click application, Properties, General, Set Launch options and put -windowed 1 in the commands field.

    Try setting the resolution from the Steam launch options. Example: In Steam right-click application, Properties, General, Set Launch options and put -w 1920 -h 1080

  • Problem: Launching game opens the game, and the game instantly closes.

    Possible solution(s):
    Try verifying the integrity of your Half-Life: C.A.G.E.D. game files. In steam library, right-click the game and go to Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity Of Game Files.

    If the above does not work, try adding this Launch Parameter to the game: -nofbo
    (right clicking on the game in Steam and go to -> Properties -> Set launch options)

    Some Anti-Virus programs can interfere with games. Disabling your Anti-Virus (use caution), or white-listing the game in your antivirus software may help.

  • Problem: Game Crashes with "D_SCAlloc: Bad Cache Size 0

    Possible solution(s):
    You may be running in the Software Render mode. Software Render mode has unexpected results for some users.

    If you are running Software Mode, Try instead going to Options->Video-> Renderer and set it to OpenGL.

  • Problem: Sometimes the game will kind of "take control" and the character will turn in a random direction.

    Possible solution(s):
    Disabling "Mouse filter" and turning on "Raw mouse input" in Options -> Mouse may reduce the problem with certain systems.

  • Problem: Fatal error when loading a save game similar to: "entity is not a player: 7".

    Possible solution(s):
    Unfortunately your save game may be corrupted.
    Try verifying the integrity of your Half-Life: C.A.G.E.D. game files. In steam library, right-click the game and go to Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity Of Game Files.

    If the problem persists you may need to use a previous saved game.

  • Problem: Weird/Strange/Wrong Music tracks are playing.

    Possible solution(s):
    The game is built on technology that searches for music on a CD in your CD/DVD drive first, before looking for the correct music in the game file structure.

    Remove all disc media from your optical drives.
