Does the new anniversary update works with the mod?

No
no
can we roll it back like we can with HL1?

You don't have to do anything. HL2VR is a standalone installation and is completely unaffected by the base game's update. You just won't see the improvements, nor can you copy over the updated files.

I feel like this discussion should've clarified, does the mod break if you even have half-life 2 installed but not on legacy branch currently? Not just asking if the anniversary changes are in the mod.

EDIT: I literally sent this comment right as Cabalistic sent their reply. It appeared as I commented and answered my question immediately, oops. I could just delete this now but I thought it was funny.

Does anyone know if they've announced plans to support the anniversary update in VR? I really want to play it :>

Valve would have to release an updated Source SDK, first. I don't know if they have any plans to ever do so or in what timeframe. But even if they do, updating the VR mod would likely not be a trivial matter, and I'm afraid it is currently not very likely that we will have the time or motivation to do so.
Will it be possible to play the episodes in VR with only owning HL2 now?

Yes, according to Valve, HL2 should now grant ownership to the old episodes.

I'm glad you did it in a way that means updates to base game won't break the VR version. Not needing to purchase the episodes separately due to the merge is also a great thing as we can play all in VR.
Of course, sad to see that the updated stuff does not translate to VR due to being separate versions, but it's not like they are enormous changes. Thank you for your hard work.

No, don't touch the 20 year old painting. I hope not, cause I imagine it breaking my perfectly already set settings. It works, don't touch it.

PS: Happy 20th HL2 !

Thank you CABAListic for clarifying on the anniversary update. I already own all three games, but what a beautiful opportunity for those that don't and have a VR headset, via the brilliant VR mods, to get three of the very best PCVR games for free, amazing !! Alyx is on 60% off at the moment too, which is still the absolute high point of PCVR. Which is kinda sad after all this time, STILL nothing has come close to the world building that Valve did in VR.

Metro Awakening is probably the closest we are going to get to Half Life Alyx.

While fun and good, HL:A it's still superior to Metro Awakening imo. MA feels like Arizona Sunshine 2 with a Metro skin.

Yeah, but Half Life Alyx is starting to show it's age in mechanics but the story is awesome. I played it today after a Metro session and it feels a little janky now compared to Metro.
