[Read me first] About the mod, FAQs, further information
Hello everyone, and welcome!

We are excited that Half-Life 2 VR has finally seen the light of day on September 16th, 2022! Please understand that this initial release is considered a public beta. It is not a finished product, but it is playable from beginning to end, and we hope you will have as much fun playing it as we had creating it.
(We would have marked this release as "early access", but sadly the feature is not available for mods.)

From the FAQ:

Will Episode 1 and 2 be playable in VR?

Eventually yes. Right now, we are concentrating on the base game and are working hard to make it fully playable and get an initial public release out of the door. Once that’s happened and the first inevitable influx of bug reports have been processed, we will slowly move our attention to the episodes and bring them to VR.

It's not currently planned. Grabbing from the hips is a potentially ambiguous action and very difficult to distinguish from you trying to, for example, grab an item in front of you. Shoulder grab is more reliable in that regard.

Pavlov VR pulls it off pretty well, in that there's a magazine pouch model, and that you use the trigger to grab them; So there's really no reason not to take inspiration from it.

Trigger is bound to "Use" and would be just as ambiguous in this mod, not to mention go against the overall control scheme. There are always compromises needed to be made; in this instance we just feel the shoulder grab is a better fit.

Eventually, we intend to release the source code, so if it's important enough for you or someone else, you can attempt to mod this in yourself :)

No, motion controllers are required. You can play it in seated mode, though.

I've got a suggestion:

Could you guys take inspiration from the following HL2 mod, "Collection of patches" ? aka by looking, not copying, then adding your own lines of code that fix the exact listed issues.

Or even better, if you could collaborate with its author in order to directly implement the fixes he made for HL2 and its episodes.

no it is a standalone. the open beta will release in a near-vanilla state. It's not compatible with Half Life 2 Update. A remaster like version might be out later on forked from this one by this team.

I hope I haven't brought on confusion with my previous post. What I meant is if you guys can add similar fixes (some of them are quite important in my opinion) to your VR version, not to the "pancake" / normal game. Has any dev taken a look at the changelog from the link I provided? if so, any thoughts?

Hello! We're working on an upgraded content branch for the game. This will include higher resolution textures, map fixes, graphical updates, QOL changes, etc. Some of the items in that change log have already been fixed in the beta maps. :winter2019happyyul:
