Ok thanks for quick reply. I had hoped it was just like in the old super mario 2 where you could play 2 player on the same screen.

I assume the developer would say something along the lines of it possibly breaking the game's puzzles since getting gems would be way easier with two players, but the co-op audience is already very niche so it's not like it would actually hurt the game (and in a way it would balance it out since defeating bosses without taking damage would be a lot harder with two players running around).

I don't think it's something that will ever be done since it probably requires a ton of work to get it working (while other smaller things like pressing a button to scroll the map faster while using the "Warp" skill or mirroring the levels horizontally in New Game+ will not be done), but it's still fun theorizing about it.
