I agree that they give you just enough to mostly make out who 90% of the people are. One hint I could offer is don't ignore the maps; get to know the rooms of the ship bc you can get lots of info of who people are based on the titles of the rooms they are in or near in some of these memories.
Once you get rolling with it, it becomes really fun. I would love to play another game like this but IDK if anything is really just like it sadly.
If you look at guides, you will ruin the experience for yourself.
