The achievement numbers tell their own story
It's really something for a game of this difficulty, that over 40% of people went to complete the entire book, and 60% got 6 fates correct.
40% of players didn't really get into it, which is fair enough I'd say.
But only 20% of players were invested enough to get some fates correct and didn't go ahead to finish the rest.

And then only a tiny percentage got the secret achievement, so it's not even that many people just completed it for the achievements sake by following a guide.

A true testament to the quality of this game IMHO, being so captivating that almost half of the players actually completed the real ending.

I like to peek at the steam achievement records, because while incomplete they do tell their own story. Normally what you see in indie games is 60~ get the first acheivements and up to 10% actually brave it to the very end.

40% full completion is a pretty good statistic and speaks volumes about the game's quality

I loved it. I often get very frustrated with detective games, but this one encourages and rewards the player rather than trying to confound them. I played it about 5 years ago and it has stayed with me. I'd never enjoyed a game so much.

Was just looking at this lol.

I abandoned this game a long time ago after doing 30 fates, because that's about all I could glean from one visit thru every memory and a couple extra visits for curiosity's sake. (Was gonna go back to finish and just never did)
Today I went back to do all the fates; there is a 3% achievement difference between 30 fates and 60 fates, with 47.4% achieving 30 fates and 44.4% achieving 60 fates.

Meaning I was one of 3% of people who gave up at a silly spot right in the middle lol.

More people have gotten the true ending than the bad ending. More people seem to have just cheated to the end than not.
I just finished the whole book and it took a good 20 or so hours. I did get stuck a few times but once you stumble upon a new clue, it can unravel so much and it is so satisfying and rewarding. Didn't even want to look up any solutions or cheese things and I was so committed and determined to get to the end. There was also a couple of names and faces I was so eager to discover and one took me almost the entire game to get a definitive identity.

I can kinda see why people throw the towel in though - got truly stumped around the 33 fate mark and at one point even after the rain started falling, I was almost adamant that it was impossible that I had discovered all the clues needed to solve the book. Yet going through memories with a broader perspective and new ways of thinking, I was able to discover clues that I totally missed before.

This is a really well-conceived game.
