Yeah I get that it's dead, and I really shouldn't bother. But other games will let you play AI in place of real players when a suitable match can't be found and still count it as a real match so you can do quests, earn rewards and work your way up to be able to play against the higher ranked players while also making the game playable on a casual level at the very least.
Being put against the best players when you are new and not being able to do quests contributes to the low player count since any potential new players are shut out unless they spend money, and who wants to spend money on a dead game.
Anyway you are right, and I have moved on. I've at least learned to always check player count before I start playing any multi-player game, no matter how big the IP or studio.
