Dragon Wars

Dude, I'm trying...
Help me keep going with this. I've been playing a bunch of Bard's Tale Trilogy... I actually played those games back in the 80s. I was reading how at one point this game was targeted to be BT4 so decided to try it, but I'm pretty sure I missed the boat on this one. The tabbing over to the pdf for stuff that should have been in-game is kind of a deal breaker. I know it was an anti-piracy device back in the day, but it's just painful today. Just not feeling it....

It definitely could use some QoL updates to fit with modern times, but the game is a masterpiece. I really do hope you give it a chance.

Sorry to say, but this is why I refused to buy the game when they brought it to Steam. Three years. Three years and no simple if basic update, and a guy who thumbs down the game tells you how to fix the crappy colors (because it is capable of functioning at NES graphics grade). No alteration so that you can read the paragraphs from inside the game... You have to spend money to make money and they spent nothing on the most important part of making it available on Steam. Giving it an upgrade to be able to contend with the Indie games coming out.

It was great for it's time, it had some very interesting mechanics, and someone else is going to come along to use some of these ideas in a completely different context, and interplay will be out money it could have made because they're trying to continue to squeeze something that they have already wrung dry.

Why not just print the manual out? There's only about 21~22 pages for the story-specific passages. Get some graph paper too and make your own maps by hand too - get the full experience.

Luckily, I've still got the manual from my original copy.

Thumbing the manual to find the passages was part of the adventure! especially the fake ones to through you off if you tried just reading through. great freeplay experience they cant replicate today. the imagination involved makes me so much invested in my characters, i have recreated my original parties from the 90s.
