what is the big difference between AoW The wizard's throne and this one?

I have a curious case of migration failure. I wanted to migrate Syrons into my dwarfen city because the city is on shadow ground and I want crops, but, I cannot migrate them in since I have no syrons in my empire, EXCEPT, I did precisely this on the same turn of another save file! I am allied to Oneron. so, it was my understanding, that this meant I could migrate Syrons in, and I started doing so, only to load the auto-save to avoid hiring a single wolf to save 15 gold plus upkeep for a total of 21, it mat...

No matter what i do, no configuration option or no compatibility mode is letting me play this game

I tried with 1.4 and 1.5 and same thing. I've looked at old threads going back years. Any tricks I might have missed?

Love this game to death but with it was more readily available online to play with others. Being forced to rely on Gameranger just to find games with others is miserable and wish the visuals looked a bit more crisp than what we got going on. I know that it would hurt the modding community but feel that the Unofficial patches could be applied to the HD Remaster and those people who worked on it could be compensated which is what is happening with the Kotor 2 port to Switch.
