It ain't ever going to happen, friend. All of the old Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana etc etc do not matter to Square Enix right now, and probably won't ever.

Would want them to do a remake over a remaster since the PC version already provides a great experience. Chrono Trigger using Dragon Quest engine would be amazing.

Secret of Evermore i've never played. being a big fan of the Mana series I always wondered about it.

Square recently asked fans their opinion on a Chrono Trigger remake. Google it.
Either way, it's just an idea and nothing concrete. If they decide on it, we won't see it for years

Hopefully they never remaster it. The game is perfect as is.

Nope. Sqaure will sit on it forever. There was a really good remake project being done by fans but of course Square squashed it. There were videos and it looked fantastic.

As Colin Moriarty has stated before, which I also believe:

Square keeps Chrono Trigger ReMaster in a glass case in their HQ that says "Smash in case of Emergency".

If SquareEnix ever comes under duress or looms too closely to going bankrupt, that is when we will see Chrono Trigger ReMaster.

This is kinda like how nintendo sits on the EARTHBOUND series too like this..lol. Last year was the anniversary for it and they gave chinese players icons, but not for us american players. Even funny is how they put the earthbound characters in smash games though..milking the IP and making hope for it. I just asked my Canadian friend to buy me a reproduction version of it for my snes so i am fine.

They have released Earthbound and Earthbound 2 for switch on their online service. The first one was an NES game and they named it 'Earthbound beginnings'. So there is no need to have to buy 1 or 2.

The real crown jewel is Earthbound 3 - it has been fan translated. I don't know why Nintendo wouldn't ask the fan people if they can use their script.. hell, even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pay them.

Hopefully never if it's current Square. I'm playing through Final Fantasy Rebirth right now. The amount of filler they have crammed in there is ridiculous. This would totally ruin Chrono Trigger as the best feature of CT is perfect pacing. The game never lingers too long on anything so feels like an amazing ride start to finish.

Have you seen the remake/sequel fake trailer the developer of Owlboy made as a passion project?
It is fake, but one can dream it could be something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3SU5dDBwCI

Maybe in a different universe this game actually came out.

In the meantime, i would say the closest thing to a chrono trigger game is either sea of stars or threads of time:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1244090/Sea_of_Stars/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2090210/Threads_of_Time/

These are probably the closest type games we will get to a remake or a sequel to chrono trigger, unofficially of course.

My theory anyways for a official chrono trigger sequel, other than chrono cross, would be that magus would probably be the main character looking for schala of course across different timelines, kinda like the multiverse of the dcu.

Originally it was supposed to be called Chorno Break i think, but they let the patent for it run out. I think square enix made this patent to stop people from making fan games for it. Of course since they waited this long, modders and game developers moved on, but at least we get these kinda similiar games. I am actually looking forward to threads of time. I just hope these new developers do not have too much to do or they will burn out and give up on the game. The people who made sea of time actually had made another game before that one though.

My personal theory is the main villain of Break would have been an alternate timeline version of Magus. It might explain how Dalton was able to attack Guardia, and steal the masamune. I don't think he could have accomplished it on his own. No idea who the main character would have been but probably someone new.
