We've now pushed live a patch to address an issue that prevented users from closing a video memory error prompt that could appear. The beta version of this patch was pushed live last week.


"What if I still receive the error?"

In our most recent patch, we introduced a new warning message to help you know if you have set your graphics settings too high for your card to handle stably. While our hotfix addresses an issue where users were unable to clear the error “The video driver has run out of dedicated video memory”, although that warning message will still appear when attempting to run the game at settings that require more VRAM than your GPU has available.

To see how much VRAM your GPU has, and how much you are trying to use with your current settings, enable “Show Performance Metrics” through the Advanced Video options.

If the amount shown in “Heap” (the amount of VRAM the game is using at these settings) is higher than the amount shown in “VRAM” (the amount of memory your GPU has), then “Heap” will show in yellow or red text and you’ll receive the warning message that “The video driver has run out of dedicated video memory” when you load a level. This may not cause a crash immediately, but will result in degraded performance that can also cause stability issues. We advise against running the game in this state.

To avoid seeing the warning message, use one of these methods:

• To restore default settings that are the most appropriate for the GPU, delete your configuration files located in 'C:\Users\[User.Name]\Saved Games\Wolfenstein II The New Colossus\base'.
  
• Alternatively, change the Video Quality Profile to a lower value in the Video options menu, or reduce the 'Resolution' and 'Image Streaming Quality' settings in the Advanced Video options to reduce your VRAM usage.
  
• If you are a user of GeForce Experience, you can use it to select the Optimal settings for your Nvidia GPU

Since our latest patch, some users have reported the following issue since updating to this week's game update for Wolfenstein II: “The video driver has run out of dedicated video memory. Your gameplay will be negatively affected.” We apologize for the inconvenience that this latest patch has caused.

This message is appearing when attempting to run the game at higher settings than the GPU can handle. We have put a potential hotfix candidate that fixes the messaging prompts into the Public Beta branch. This hotfix allows players to get past the message on load screens and continue playing the game. However, in order to get the message to stop appearing, you’ll need to lower the graphical settings to an appropriate level that the GPU can handle. You can view your VRAM by enabling “Show Performance Metrics” through the Advanced Video options.

If the heap usage exceeds the amount of VRAM available to the GPU, it won't result in an instant crash but hitching and stuttering in frame rate may be observed, and overtime that may cause crashes during gameplay.

How to fix:

• The minimum requirements for the game is for the GPU to have least a 4GB of VRAM.
  
• To restore default settings that are the most appropriate for the GPU, delete your configuration files located in 'C:\Users\[User.Name]\Saved Games\Wolfenstein II The New Colossus\base'.
  
• Alternatively, changing the graphical preset to a lower value in the Video menu or reducing the 'Resolution' and 'Image Streaming Quality' settings in the Advanced Video options can help alleviate strain on the VRAM.
  
• How to Access Public Beta Branch:
  
• To access the Beta Branch, right click on Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus in your Steam Library and select 'Properties'. Navigate to the 'BETAS' tab, and select the Public Beta from the drop down list.

Release Timing:

The Deeds of Captain Wilkins will unlock at 7pm ET, March 12 for Steam users. ​



ISSUE: How do I access the DLC?
RESOLUTION: The DLC content can be accessed by selecting “SAS Machine” on the main menu, or from the actual SAS machine located in the vault on the Evas Hammer submarine. Both methods require the player to have progressed to the part of the Main Game where the player can freely explore the Submarine Hub (after Chapter 2 - Section F).

ISSUE: All Platforms – DLC3 Mission – Kodiak Island: Player can activate cannon aiming lever while in a button press animation, causing a control lock.

RESOLUTION: This is a known issue with that can only be recovered by loading a previous save. When the player is tasked with destroying the Super Cannons on Kodiak Island using two different Gunstations (Alpha and Beta), there is a lever that the player must use to rotate the Gunstation, and a button the player must press to fire the Gunstation. If the player activates the rotation lever during the fire button pressing animation, it can cause the player to be control locked.



ISSUE: When Alt+Tabbing while in a SAS Combat Simulation, the game does not pause.

RESOLUTION: This is a known issue that is inconsistent with the main game campaign. We do not officially support Alt+Tab.



ISSUE: Unplugging a monitor while playing in fullscreen on Windows 7/8.1 will cause the title to crash.

RESOLUTION: If losing connection to the monitors is a likely scenario for the user, it is recommended that they play in windowed or borderless windowed mode.



ISSUE: Resolution does not scale properly when changing from fullscreen to windowed mode when using multiple monitors.

RESOLUTION: This issue is resolved by exiting and relaunching the application.

A brand new game patch is coming on January 30 for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Here are the patch notes for the new base game update:

• Various optimizations and bug fixes
• Updated difficulty balancing
• More prominent damage direction indicators

In addition to the base game update, the latest DLC for The Freedom Chronicles is on its way. "The Diaries of Agent Silent Death" follows ex-OSS agent and assassin Jessica Valiant as she infiltrates Nazi bunkers in California. You'll even infiltrate well known sets on the Tinseltown backlot... including the set of the popular gameshow, "German...Or Else!"

(The planned unlock times for the content is 7:00pm ET on Jan 29.)

The first DLC chapter for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will arrive on December 14, Thursday of this week!

The global unlock time for The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe is 7pm ET on December 13 worldwide. Once unlocked at that time, you'll be able to play the new content.

In our first DLC installment, you'll play as a former professional quarterback named Joseph Stallion, who will smash through Nazi hordes from the ruins of Chicago to the vastness of space.

The next two chapters of The Freedom Chronicles DLC will arrive in January and March of 2018, respectively.

Play through the beginning of the game to get a feel for BJ's next adventure, working with the resistance to take on the regime. If you end up loving the game and want to keep playing, your save progress will continue whether you decide to purchase a copy of the game.

Vulkan
When we started development of Wolfenstein II, the choice of graphics API for PC was a simple one. DOOM had already set the stage for what could be done with Vulkan and we wanted to take it to the next level.

Using Vulkan when developing has allowed us to utilize the power of AMD's VEGA graphics chips in ways that were not possible before, giving us fine grained control over the performance and feature set of the GPU without having to sacrifice artistic intent. Combined with the flexibility of AMD's hardware, Vulkan gives us the artistic freedom to deliver Wolfenstein without compromise.
