Amazing game once u sort of accept the arcady nature of it. If you want a more indepth/hardcore story/level experience then the previous game Jedi Outcast is much more refined in that respect. Academy is literally a standalone expansion for outcast, similar to how mysteries of sith was to dark forces 2. But if u are willing to deal with the rougher edges of academy, ur going to really enjoy it. You should really play dark forces 2 > Jedi Outcast > Academy in that order.....dark forces 1 really only holds up for a level or two before its age becomes grating. The multiplayer was always super fun in this game except for ffa and dueling...siege was very fun...but it was sort of paper thin and arcadey to the point where there waasn't really anythign skill related it was really just rng...still fun though mainly due to the objectives and maps....they have decent bots, I don't know if any 'base game' servers r up still but give them a try if so.




The rest of this post is going to be about the mod Movie Battles 2. These are likely what most of the servers on the serverlist are hosting still. As a 10k hour player over 20 years, unless u can get a dedicated group together on an old build on a private server, I 100% recommend you stay away from it. It has been in decline for a long time, but the last few years it has been completely unplayable. There's nothing to experience anymore, go checkout more modern star wars games, that's where the actual community and developers went. THis WAS a notable point in history for star wars fans no doubt, nobody can take the memories and what the developers achieved away from us (try as they might).....but it's been long past time to move on.

In regards to my hours in this game....ya its basically from the online multiplayer mod Movie Battles 2. I have probably 10k hours over 20 years in that mod, going from the cd version to much much much later the steam version (I threw one of the original CD out cause it was too addictive). Should u play this mod? no, honestly. If u could go back in time 12 years ....ya, I'd fully recommend it, but its just not playable anymore as even though there's full servers....nobody is actually playing, u'll be lucky to find 1-2 people in a full server actually playing team deathmatch. The dev team has been taken over by redditors who can't develop or even code...they just enable changes in return for clout and friendship coins. The extent of their efforts literally amounts to random invisible walls showing up on maps to deny access to areas once fully accessible, removing amazing classic skins out of circulation cause their 'friend' tried meshing and wants their first monstrocity to be highlighted....the mod is literally run by losers now.

It's sad, esp considering the dev team used to publicly declare "NO THANKYOU POSTS, NO DONATIONS, NO ♥♥♥♥ UPS". Somehow the longstanding players who never wenton to learn anything managed to seep into the dev team as members left....starting from taking on roles like "forum moderator"...they started getting "titles" and then they started attending "dev meetings" in roles like "community outreach" and "server mods"....and u can see very easily how incompetent players managed to displace the actual developers over the course of a 20 year mod that has been long dead. I'll give some credit to the idea these parasites kept the office 'twitching' for many dry years....the way a parasite keeps its host from completely dying before its done its thing. But its all superficial, there hasn't a real update in like 12 yearas, every update has been literally removing features and uniqueness from the mod to the point it is literally just boring and generic now...all in the name of "balance"....which is a joke cause if they wanted to 'balance' they would attack the stuff their 'friends' use///instead they do the literal opposite and declare "that stuff they use has to be OP by design". Literally the way u get anything changed is by whining and sucking ppl off. Anything threatens u ingame? Well u can get it removed next patch. It's a joke, only its not. They are not smart people.
