A very fun game, playable solo or as a co-op experience - there's a discord with active players. I've spent many hours on it and will probably return to it again in future. I'm guessing even a player unfamiliar with the TV series should easily enjoy the gameplay.

Controls are improved compared to the (already good) first game; for example, it's still possible to be anchored to a Titan and swing in other directions, to some extent; this wasn't true in AoT 1.

The story is familiar to any AoT fan, but with a custom character, inserted into the story about as seamlessly as could be accomplished. You get to be rather important without overshadowing canonical characters; for example, no matter what you do, you'll never steal one of those coveted top 10 graduation spots.

There's plenty of new dialog with all the original voice actors. Some of it you experience in seen-for-the-first-time side events (like the conflict between Reiner and Zeke), and even a game mode involving a hypothetical re-conquest of the land.

AoT 2 does lose on immersion compared to the first game. In AoT 1 battles naturally progress on their own, with much of the fighting resolving itself around you as you do your thing. In AoT 2 other characters and soldiers are mostly there for show. Bases are a new addition that doesn't make much in-universe sense, either. In the Final Battle expansion immersion nosedives even harder, what with Thunder Spears and firearms being available much earlier than canonically, and firearms being actually effective against Titans, which kind of defeats the whole premise of the setting, doesn't it? But you quickly learn to not mind that much, because it's all fun.

Of course, I played the game both with and without Final Battle, and both ways are fun. Still, when I want a maximally immersive experience, I launch AoT 1, not this.

The game is not without other flaws; the crafting system in particular feels designed to waste my time more than anything. Still feels better than first game, where the "reinforcing" mechanic was just horrid. This one is also meh, but with quality of life improvements that make things go faster, so... progress?

Still, at the end of the day, I can recommend it, as long as you don't mind the price (Japanese devs, ugh). Buy the game, expansion, and mission DLCs, skip the nonsense cosmetics.

Best game i have played so far yet, Despite its looks its made me really appreciate what games like these give to its players. Its got fun an exhilarating combat system, and sort of follows the shows scenes but adds your character in it making it seem like your making your own path to glory and fame. Don’t listen to any of the negative comments this game is definitely worth the buy i held it off for so long but now im glad i bought it.

It faithfully captures the essence of Attack on Titan's world while delivering thrilling gameplay and memorable moments.
