However, there are plenty of events that would change a characters position, such as making them a religious or family head, and then the narrative of the event that takes place also changes their opinion of you.
Sometimes when characters level up l they gain new traits that put them at odds with you. The proud trait, for example makes characters dislike the ruler -40 points.
It might be something like that. What tends to happen is a head of family dies and a new one takes their place and I get a message stating this and that the characters opinion has gone from pleased to upset. Doesn't say families opinion, but characters opinion, which is why I asked why they would change their minds so quick.
I see the misunderstanding, the text in the paranthesis when it says "Their opinion has gone from pleased to upset" - the "their" means the family. It should say something like "Darius has become the head of the Clerics family, their opinion of you has gone from cautious to upset"
It's talking about the family, not the character.
