Stuck on Palace Courtyard Boss
As the title would suggest, I seem to have encountered something of an issue with the Merga fight in aforementioned stage a bit over a quarter of my way into beating the game with all four player characters. Normally, you're not strictly intended to win this fight and can move on with the story after getting taken out, but whenever I go down in this fight in my current playthrough it just shows the same revive-on-the-spot or go back to the last checkpoint options you see getting downed normally, Merga keeps going through her attack pattern, and I don't get taken to the post-defeat cutscene.

At this point, I've played through the stage probably a dozen times on this playthrough and haven't been able to trigger the cutscene. No matter what I do, It just shows the same respawn or checkpoint options and I have to restart.

I know this is passable because I got through it on my first playthrough, so I'm a bit mystified as to why the game is doing this. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong? If anyone wants my key computer specs for diagnosis, It's a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU with a Radeon RX 5700XT GPU and 16 gigs of RAM running LInux MInt 22 with me running the game itself via Proton. I hope someone knows what to do here, As I'm basically stumped.

yea it's intentional you suppose to see it once and then beat her like you did already.
what's the issue exacly?

Do you mean I'm supposed to get downed, choose to respawn on the spot, and get downed again to trigger the cutscene?

Nevermind, was able to get past it by actually beating her this time round. The thing is that I've beaten this game before and I know you don't have to win that boss fight and aren't strictly intended to win that boss fight, so what are the conditions needed to trigger the post-defeat cutscene normally?

You need 0 lives.

Note: If you have the free revivals assist on from the assist settings, you won't lose lives upon reviving yourself. (assuming you have it on)

So you just need to run out of extra lives then. I was overthinking this. Thanks for that.

Actually now that i think about it, do you need to kill her for the rainbow S or can you just die on her and get it that way? Probably a stupid question, but eh

Just checked, the requirements are to beat the level without expending any extra lives and with the one-hit-KO stone equipped alongside any stone that gives you +25% bonus.

Regular S-Ranks just require you to beat the level with all extra lives intact and both stone slots filled with at least a +20% bonus.

The rainbow S requires the one-hit ko brave stone, a brave stone that gives a 25% bonus (or 20%, but then you'll need to remove all potions to make up the 5%), and you need the no-hit bonus. If you get hit (without shields because for some reason, you can still earn the rainbow S if you have a shield and take damage), you lose the rainbow S

No i know what rainbow S is, i was just wondering if the one hit you take by dying to her counts or not.

IIRC, I think it does and you need to beat her without dying to get the S
Jamie_Dodgems 23 Nov, 2024 @ 12:39pm
Shield potions are an option if you so desire, as shield hits don't count in terms of the rainbow S

It does. Losing to her is considered a death and is reflected on the results screen
