This game needed to have extra savety pixels for misstimed jumps.
I got it on PS5 yesterday, played through it, and despite my early reservations, I've had a blast.

But the jumping was/is kinda aggravating.
I know it's because of "player error", but other games have a hidden mechanic, where a jump comes out if you press it a hair too late.

I can't tell you how often I did the double jump (or the equivalent, dependend on used char) by accident.
I never had such problems in other games.
In fact, if something like this would happen in "Sonic 2", I would just constantly fall to my death. ^^

I don't know what it is, if I missjudge the size of the char's hitbox or so... but it feels just wrong.
Maybe it's just me tho.
It hasn't kept me from beating the game.

I don't exactly where, but I've read or heard something about it before.

And no matter how many platformers I've played, 3D and 2D, this game here is the only one where I do the midair-jump instantly... which means, I already ran off the edge, but it never looked like it.

I do agree that this game is much more precise but I'd argue that all characters have abilities to bypass this issue. Lilac got the cyclone, Carol her bike and Milla can flutter a bit.

This is the thing tho.
It's nice that each char has some sort of double-jump mechanic... the problem is, that it takes the flow away of your planned route.
You wanted to get high up somewhere with a double jump?
Well, too bad, since you activated it already by accident...
Only thing to do is adapting and dragon-boost up or whatever.

All the characters (except Neera) are far more vertically capable than most platformer characters are and their special moves give them a substantial amount of distance. Lilac can Cyclone or Uppercut into a Dragon Boost in addition to her normal jump. Milla has the flutter jump but she can also fire cubes downwards and gain momentum in the opposite direction. Carol has the Jump Disc which travels a significant distance and also has an infinite wall jump so provided there's a wall she can get that high. Neera ends up being the exception but you can still get higher by using her Tundra Ray to hover upwards if you miss a jump.

Of course there is the fact that Lilac's boost powers, Carol’s disc. Milla's cube powers and Neera's ice powers are all tied to a special meter so they might not always be available. So in that sense, someone like Madeline in Celeste might have something of an advantage since she has the mid air dash which for most of the game is once per air time. It would be nice to have but I think Celeste is far more precision based than FP2 and a good amount of the cast are more vertically capable than Madeline. The meter issue can be somewhat resolved by the fact that collecting crystals fills your meter.

I never really found the lack of coyote time a major issue in either of these games due to the fact that their air control is generally really good and they often fall slowish.
