í42 tried having a casual mode for Throne of Lies, but I don't think it has the player numbers to sustain two game modes right now.

Well I mean it kind of depends on your definition of for fun? There's your "super competitive, nothing matters but whether I win... anyone that isn't always performing the 100% optimal strategy must die" kind of people, which I'll agree are toxic.

But there's the other hand... there's absolutely no care of winning etc... that are just as toxic if not more. IE the it's funny if I intentionally trick my own team into executing me, or I think the prince is being too bosy by asking me my class etc... That IMO is just as toxic. I mean if you were out playing touch football with a group of friends, and one of your team-mates thinks it's hilarious every time he gets the ball to run it towards the wrong endzone... you aren't taking it too seriously to want to not play with that person again... you are just wanting to casually play the game.

I can't say one way or the other on if the experiences you are having are actual "taking too seriously", versus "don't find blatant gamethrowing funny", it's been a few weeks since I've had time to actually play, and I've seen a bit of both.

Yes I hate players who get super upset over legitimate new players mistakes, or players who push for meta's that kill the fun of the game in exchange for a miniscule increased win rate (whisper king metas etc...). But it kills the game for everyone altogether if you aren't even trying to meet your win condition. (not saying you haven't been, I fully admit I don't know you, I probably haven't been in a game with you, so you could be a cool dude, or you could be the worse troll on the server and I wouldn't know from this conversation).

Just having a higher gold reward in competitive would get more people to play compet over casul; as well as incite more players to play the game as it'd be more new player friendly.

The argument of "there's not enough players for multiple game modes" argument doesn't really stand up that well considering no matter how many people are online, the matches are going to be a set number anyways; and there's always a flow of players in and out; compet would just have a slightly higher wait time, perhaps ghosts could get a smaller penaltry for leaving early.

While I truly want a competitive mode, I agree with your logic and think implementing it would be a bad idea. Player numbers continue to drop and it's getting more and more common to see longer wait times. Lately I've often waited in excess of 5 minutes which is extremely iritating for a game which you have to give all of your attention to while playing.

Literally over 76,000 got the game recently from humblebundle. Devs just need a way to hook the new players instead of having them bounce off.

imo we have to split the "other hand" or just add a third group. Those (like myself) who play seriously, but don't care if they win or not. That's another definition of "fun" and imo the healthiest.

But totally agree about the let's call them salty tryhards (to put it simple) being toxic and the i-don't-give-a-flying-f*ck trolls maybe even more.

I think there should be a separate casual mode lobby set.

Casual mode should also have a substantially easier game (fewer classes, more fun classes, available classes and ratio of classes selected for shorter, more deadly games.)

I mean the game is fun and all, but it requires a lot of thinking. Some players just playing for fun might not want that, and they will likely not play particularly well in the normal mode.

There should also be a hardcore mode with 20 players, with BOTH Unseen and Cult in every match.

If someone with more experience on the game wants to give these feedbacks on the main forum, and add to them, that would be nice.

They actually tried exactly that.. A casual mode with fewer classes etc... unfortunately it didn't get enough players and just slowed down getting games in the main mode so it was discontinued.

Are you against people who play for fun or not, the title says two different things

I think he means players who don't play seriously and just goof off. (i.e. casual players.)

As of the casual mode. Maybe it should be even easier with 12 players.

1 Merc, 1 Alc, 1 KIng (good or evil), 1 Prince, 2 Sherif, 2 Knight, 2 Phys, 1 Asn, 1 MM.

Not a bad idea!

@Aerys Complain about bans, but sticking around to the end of a pretty long game just to report someone takes a lot of patience. I think anyone could tell from your scornful attitude and entitlement that you are the problem.
MrLucid72 18 Mar, 2019 @ 11:19pm
We have issued 2,279 warnings, 2,901 suspensions, and 168 permabans since our new system -- probably +30% more from our old system.

The problem is that, of these, we've investigated 85,694 reports. As an indie game with limited resources, this is a lot of reports -- these are the ones that we took care of. Some may have slipped (although there's a priority system through many factors -- we'll catch the REALLY bad people extra fast).

This means that there are a total of 5,180 actions -- making the actual reports having a 6% chance to be valid. This is why you have to wait until the end -- if it's *that bad*, someone will report them at the end. It doesn't necessarily need to be you.

If you're with 14 other players that experience toxicity, at least 1 will stay to the end and report and would also mean better chance of a legit report rather than just a salt report from someone getting killed off n1 :P

Btw, this forum is super inactive. Join us in Discord @ https://discord.gg/tol (14k players here instead of maybe ... 10 here))
