How to remove permadeath?

My pilots keep dying and the game resets their XP and skills. It seems there's no stat progression at all in this game from multiple runs, besides winning some coins to unlock a new squad. How to remove pilot stat reset in this gmae?

Mighty Mike has Into the Breach

Your pilot levels up only during run. They can level up three times which is possible to do during single run.
Only way to "preserve" their levelup is to complete run, or abandon run and pick up one pilot which is carried over to the next run.
