Do not buy/install/reinstall this game

TL:DR : Capcom is cooperating with an unknown Russian company to add a Rootkit to all their older games that will tank your performances.
Despicable.

Interesting, I have no difficulty to believe it, but I see no proof and it would be nice to support it

The russians who dev'd Enigma are also denying everything instead of looking into it.

That's better, thanks

This is beyond asinine. ♥♥♥♥ you, Capcom.

does this game have it too?
I checked Steam DB yesterday, it said there was an update for this game last September.

I checked it again today, it says there's an update...yesterday???

I checked my library for when my game was actually updated, it said it was last July? I can usually catch my games when it updates and I haven't seen this game getting updated lately.

So I wonder what's really going on?

I took a risk and played it today, nothing different so far nor did an update dropped. My settings are the default update when available.

Maybe...just maybe, Capcom was planning to update it with a DRM but cancelled it just now due to the current backlash? I hope so...

yes I checked the properties of 30th anniv. and it said was updated roughly the same time as yours. I turned off auto updates just to be sure, but I hope this means we weren't touched by this malware. it's ridiculous how these games can openly install malware on steam's user base without any repercussion from valve themselves. it's surefire way to ruin the platform through these security vulnerabilities, if this keeps up in the future. we already see this with activision

Hmm...someone pointed this reddit topic that explains things quite a bit...

https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/194z8mm/as_far_as_i_can_tell_everything_people_are/

Apparently, it's too late according to the topic writer. The July update WAS the DRM according to him. It was put in sometime ago and only noticed now.

However, the writer also claims the DRM is a non-issue for most games and doesn't even stop a lot of mods or cause any noticeable performance issues (with some exceptions like RE Revelations.) You can read the replies and counter arguments in the topic if it can help decide what you want to do with the game.

As for myself, I don't really know. I play 30th anniversary every now and then and no issue here, at least not yet. I guess it's up to the user if they want to regard it as a non-issue or deleting the game entirely but I'll keep playing the game for now unless someone discovers something really nasty about it entirely.

I hadn't played for months and today I'm back. The FPS continue to work for me at 60 as always. There is no excess consumption in CPU or memory. No new running processes appear from the Task Manager either. Antispyware also doesn't detect any viruses or Trojans. Since I don't use mods, I'm not sure if this ultimately is, or was, true or not.

Worth watching, this dude explains the situation.

The issue here is not personal experience/anecdote, the fact that you are not visually experiencing any issue doesn't mean everything is ok.

Capcom reatroactively adding DRM to old, single player games is a red flag, what's the purpose of this DRM protection? to stop ppl from modding, this is the initial step to achieve that goal, if players let them get away with it i can assure you they will add a more agressive DRM sooner or later, this is just testing the waters to see how much they can push drm and control the things we do with the games we bought.

The issue here is not the personal experience/anecdote of others over my own.

I agree with what you say about Crapcom, in fact, it's not the first time that Crapcom does something against its own clients. I haven't bought Street Fighter 5 or 6, precisely because I don't want to support that company anymore.

Crapcom is also not the first company to do something against its customers or modders. Bethesda, Rockstar and others are also in the spotlight.

I never said that everything is ok. The only thing I have said is that my computer doesn't have any negative problems or bad optimization because of the DRM, as some people are crowing over there. Since I don't use mods for this specific game, I have no way of checking for myself if the issue is true or not in my personal case. Although as I said in my first comment on the 12th, I have no difficulty to believe it.

Maybe we could petition steam to not sell capcom games if what they are doing harms computers. Cannot remap controllers except for keyboard so far in this one.
