"Castle of Shikigami 2" is finally coming to Steam!!

Hello, Shikigami fans!

We are pleased to announce that the second installment of the dramatic shooter that gained popularity in the arcades is now coming to Steam with +α elements!

Game Overview

Players choose one of seven (+1?) characters, each with different unique abilities, and use their shots, special Shikigami attack, and bombs to destroy the enemy. The unique backgrounds of each character are intricately intertwined, creating an interesting storyline for the shooter.

In between of total 5 stages, different demos (stories) will be played for each character, and when playing with two players, a completely different story unfolds depending on the combination of characters used, all of which are fully voiced (in Japanese).

In January a pricing error on the Humble Store meant that a large number of keys were purchased way below their retail price, the majority of these were purchased by accounts which were flagged for various reasons by Humble Store and the keys were revoked.

Castle of Shikigami Hi-Score Contest 2 "Beat the Butterfly"

To celebrate Shikigami's update today, we're having another high score contest and to make sure everyone can take part it's very simple!

Rules:

Options Difficulty: Normal, Slowdown On or Off (On is easier!)
Play Practice 1-1 with any character and record a score (you need to defeat the boss, Grotesque Butterfly)
Take a screenshot with F12 of the Practice screen showing your score
Post the capture to Twitter during the contest period with the official hashtag #castleofshikigami and a mention to us (@degigames)
Multiple entries OK, but only one score per user will be accepted.

If you can't locate the screen captures, open your Steam Library, right click on Castle of Shikigami and select 'View Screenshots' and follow the prompts to navigate to the correct folder.

Castle of Shikigami - Major (free!) Update

The team has been working hard on improving the game and thanks to your feedback we have a large update to release today. The details are below, but we still have more to come, so stay tuned!

Update Details

Added Slowdown option
Accessed via the Options, this can be turned on or off. The slowdown is as close as we can get to the original console releases, but will vary depending on your PC.
Added Practice Mode
Accessed via the main menu. New stages are opened once you've reached them in the main game. Each character's practice stages are independent, so unlocking stages for one character will not unlock them for the others. Scores are local only.
Fixed leaderboard issues
Without getting into technical discussions, the problem here is that Shikigami's scores are larger than Steam's leaderboards can cope with, so the approach we took was to divide the scores uploaded to Steam by 10, while leaving the in-game scores faithful to the original game.
Changed Extend scores to match original game
- Very Easy: First 100,000,000 and every further 100,000,000 points
- Easy: First 100,000,000 and every further 200,000,000 points
- Normal: First 150,000,000 and every further 300,000,000 points
- Hard: First 200,000,000 and every further 400,000,000 points
- Very Hard: First 250,000,000 and every further 400,000,000 points

Castle of Shikigami: Major update on the way!

The Shikigami team have been busy working on an update to address some of the requests and issues we've been receiving from all of you. It's being tested at the moment, so we hope to bring you some good news soon.

However, as it effects the way the scoring system works and overall game difficulty, we will need to reset or renew the leaderboards when it launches. We don't make the decision lightly, but its neccessary in order to provide an even better gaming experience to you all.

Castle of Shikigami V1.0.10 Released

We have just released version 1.0.10 with the following updates:

Bug Fixes

Score Upload: Fixed a crash occurring when the score could not be uploaded to leaderboard
Added a warning message when the game detects Steam is offline and will not be able to upload score

Changes/ New features

Higher resolution font and new text rendering method
Characters have been added for name display
Score has been changed closer to the original arcade

With regards to scores, Castle of Shikigami has seen many versions and scoring varied from one to another. We chose to listen to fans and restore a score system closer to the original arcade version of the game.

Since new scores will be ~10 times larger than previous scores for the same gameplay, we chose not to delete the existing leaderboard as it will be surpassed as soon as top players play again.

All other issues reported in the bug report thread are being looked at.

"Defeat Miyoko" Hi Score Contest results

Here's the results for our first Castle of Shikigami high score contest , held to mark the Steam release of this game on the 16th.

We were certain kumi_Gckogasa05 was going to take it, until umami_chan swept in at the last second like some secret boss. Ele8901 put in a great showing too and we'd love some hints and tips about topping the 20 million points mark!
