I have the original monster hunter
Should I pick up rise? or just iceborne? will I be missing on things?

Iceborne is monster hunter world 2.
Rise is more monster hunter, but more optimized, uglier, faster, flashier, more streamlined and its a spinoff title.

Freedom Unite is more akin to the original Monster Hunter than World and Rise are. I'd probably recommend that as your next monster hunter game due to the amount of content it has. The gear system is all different, you don't have to rely on hot/cold drinks for practically every map and no paint balls in World and Rise.

of course you will miss things dude lol you're asking if you should buy the massive content expansion or a whole entire new game, what do you think they are? cosmetic dlc? :P

that said, if you have enjoyed your time with MHW and want more of it, then definitely get iceborne, it's about the same size as base game was. Or if you want something completely fresh but still MH, get rise, it's a wholly different experience

Rise is very mid at best
