Incredible game at what it does. The sense of exploration, upgrading your gear and blitzing through monsters is second to none. Music is killer and you’ll find yourself humming along to many tracks.

Story is pretty good but definitely has some anime cliches, so your mileage may vary. Even so, I found myself invested in the narrative and the plight of the main cast right up to the end.

Strongly recommended for fans of JRPGS and action rpgs.

I have always enjoyed Ys as a series, and with Memories of Celceta as the latest one I had played before starting Ys VIII, I thought I knew what I was in for. I was wrong. I was completely unprepared for the epic journey that Lacrimosa of Dana is. The characters, setting, story, music and gameplay all cohesively form what I now consider one of my favorite games of all time. Its so full of content and fun gameplay that I never felt myself just wishing it was over, quite the opposite. When the end finally came I only wanted it to keep going, so much so that I started up a Nightmare difficulty run after. It's not often a game will make me feel nostalgic for it immediately after finishing it, but Ys VIII sure as hell does. Highly recommended.

I did not enjoy this game. I did finish it, in hopes it would get better. its just a bland game. the characters were forgettable. Story felt slow. The ending sucked.
