This game is so good

I played this HD renovated (Unity) version as well as the OG, made in Gamemaker.
After so many hours played, in story mode, DLCs and above all in endless mode, I'd say this a almost a roguelike, more than a horror game. Even though I might be biased because of endless mode.

The story is interesting. Traversing 1000 rooms might seem boring at first glance, but main story can be done very quickly actually.
As you are progressively meeting the specimens of the mansion, you'll find that some are pure nightmare fuel especially white face if you played Imscared, but also some that are Silent Hill references , some have clever mechanics but some other just require you to run to escape - which is basically holding your shift key - and you will not see them often, which is more disappointing.
Although there have been improvements in design within updates, most of specimen sprites are too cartoonish to scare. However, the coming "SOUP" update will improve the design of most specimens to make them more scary!

Compared to the OG, some features I liked are missing Spooper chase introduction is no longer silent, which I still don't understand to this day, some sound effects are buggy since they are now played by transparent placeholders scattered acrossed the room, also some sprites are creepier in the OG - like clicky in the dollhouse, which is too affected by 3D and light in HDR to be scary but en general, it is way better. Being chased by up to 5 specimens at once is an incredible feature, and gives endless mode much more sense and difficulty.

Also, some OG bugs were scary. Unfortunately, as Unity is way more suitable for such 3D projects, most of them are no longer here. I just wished they were recreated as easter eggs Like the one where specimens were able to chase withing arcade machines

Overall, I'd recommend this game. I have known it for 10 years now, and I still play it to this day. One of my favorite horror games. Not the scariest, but it is unique in its genre.
