The publisher did not murder the game, it was a mercy killing.
Maximum had told Mane6 to prioritize the season pass first, and they were paying the bills so they called the shots. Then they pulled the plug when they thought they could get away with shipping Baihe.
You can make as many excuses for Mane6 as you want, but at the end of the day, THEY were the ones that failed to deliver. Not Maximum.
Lauren Faust did actually say that the story was completely written.
Here's the tweet[x.com]
I was one of the Indiegogo backers and put 165$ (Huoshan Soldier tier) into this game. They promised us at that tier the following (direct quote from their crowdfund campaign):
What did I get? Nothing of the above. I got the wallpapers and the key for the game on steam, but neither the physical soundtrack nor the game as a physical reward.
What did they sell though? PHYSICAL VERSIONS FOR CONSOLES! Their priority wasn't to fulfill the promises they made to the ones who funded their dream, but to sell ♥♥♥♥.
It would've sufficed if they sent out the game with a sticker with "Backer edition" on the front. Would've still been a disappointment, but at least I would've gotten SOMETHING physical. Instead they played the "oh, the rewards are in production"-game for YEARS while they failed to even SHOW a copy of said games.
I didn't even get the shipping cost back they took from me.
Call it what you will, I think it's scummy and completely disrespectful to those who invested in their dream.
I think its important to note that the devs held a lot of contempt for their playerbase towards the end. Is it anyway wonder why they turned their backs on us?
