There are no more devs. Publisher pulled the plug and laid off the entire studio.

The publisher is just here to take your money.

yeah, game got stolen, it's dead.
Kailen 21 Nov, 2024 @ 11:56pm
The game was dead long before it was "stolen". The game was released to early access in 2018, and then released out of early access in a very incomplete state in 2020. They had years to put the story mode in even before they were bought out.

The publisher did not murder the game, it was a mercy killing.

What do you mean? They'd been consistently putting out updates the whole time, it's not like M6 sat around doing nothing.

No no, they did just that. People tend to forget that they were under original obligation to do the story mode as it was one of the stretch goals that got reached and they essentially put it off for longer than reasonable to the degree that they left early access with it still not done. It's not even as if they had to write from scratch, Lauren gave them an outline in the original book of lore that they chose to replace with their own.

Story Mode was an incredibly ambitious project that turned out to need a much bigger budget that they just didn't have. Writing the plot wasn't the hard part, developing the game was.

Maximum had told Mane6 to prioritize the season pass first, and they were paying the bills so they called the shots. Then they pulled the plug when they thought they could get away with shipping Baihe.

Maximum bought Mane6 in 2022. Four years after the game was released to the public, and two years after it was out of early access.

You can make as many excuses for Mane6 as you want, but at the end of the day, THEY were the ones that failed to deliver. Not Maximum.

And what they DIDN'T put out was their obligated story mode. Make excuses all you like, they failed. Period.

EXACTLY.
Lauren Faust did actually say that the story was completely written.
Here's the tweet[x.com]

I was one of the Indiegogo backers and put 165$ (Huoshan Soldier tier) into this game. They promised us at that tier the following (direct quote from their crowdfund campaign):
This one is special. This tier will grant backers access to Them’s Fightin’ Herds - Crowdfund Physical Edition, a limited-edition, one-time-only physical version of the game. This special edition will not be reprinted once the crowdfund is over, and will be limited to the amount of copies rewarded to the backers. Includes all the Predator Scout tier’s rewards. Non-US backers please add $15 USD for shipping.

What did I get? Nothing of the above. I got the wallpapers and the key for the game on steam, but neither the physical soundtrack nor the game as a physical reward.

What did they sell though? PHYSICAL VERSIONS FOR CONSOLES! Their priority wasn't to fulfill the promises they made to the ones who funded their dream, but to sell ♥♥♥♥.
It would've sufficed if they sent out the game with a sticker with "Backer edition" on the front. Would've still been a disappointment, but at least I would've gotten SOMETHING physical. Instead they played the "oh, the rewards are in production"-game for YEARS while they failed to even SHOW a copy of said games.

I didn't even get the shipping cost back they took from me.

Call it what you will, I think it's scummy and completely disrespectful to those who invested in their dream.

I think its important to note that the devs held a lot of contempt for their playerbase towards the end. Is it anyway wonder why they turned their backs on us?
