5.618 More Quickstarts And Sidekicks

This build has a number of updates to quickstarts in general, and to the Sidekicks mod, and a few generalized fixes.

On the quickstarts side of things, Dismiss has fixed up a number of the descriptions, and has added a new "Full Campaign Start" type of save. This is a very interesting way for players to provide really hyper-specific scenarios (down to the seed and all the other bits) for others to try and play.

There's also a new community quickstart, called the Marshal Plan, by Corpserule. This is the first of those new kinds of full campaign quickstarts.

Badger has been hard at work on his sidekicks mod, and has a number of balance changes and improvements relating to the Dyson Empire, Scourge Infused Empire, and more. He also updated the player type descriptions in the game to make those a lot more informative in general.

There are a handful of other minor tweaks and fixes to the main game from both Dismiss and Badger.

Question about the Relentless Waves

The AI sends waves through the warp gates and if you gate raid all of the adjacent planets, they just store the wave budget, I've heard. But what if a powerful ally like nanocaust or scourge has taken over other planets even though you haven't taken them yourself, and the AI sends waves against those planets? Do they use the same AI budget against those? Would the player be safe from accumulating the wave budget by gate raiding player adjacent planets and making the AI send those waves to the ally? 5.617 Minions And Fixes

This build updates the scourge infused empire so that they can now summon their scourge minions to join in a particular fight, which helps to set them aside from regular scourge allies. This is with the Sidekicks mod, which is free and totally something you should try if you still haven't! It's by one of the devs of the game (Badger), and is basically an unofficial and free DLC4.

In other areas, there are a number of more bugfixes and tweaks in here. Big thanks to both Badger and Dismiss for those.

Back in the Sidekicks mod, there are also another two new custom AI difficulties, to go with the two that were added last update. Shark and Lumbering Badger are both very amusing and intriguing.

300 planets minimum requirements

I'm willing to bet a few people who play this might have the latest hardware, so if anyone tested and knows, I've wanted to ask if the 300 planets settings would be able to run somewhat smoothly (higher than 15 FPS?) on 12th gen intel core i7-12650H CPU, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU. And if these are not enough, what would be the minimum? Sorry if it's a stupid question....

First impressions after hitting the 8 hour campaign mark

Firstly I'm very new to the game. I've enjoyed a lot of the Arcen games and AI war 1 seemed really cool, but I never played a serious game after the tutorial. I feel like AI war 2 has been idiot proofed, and it's very much appreciated. Also my game is expert, 2 lvl-6 AI. I feel like the economy of the game is super unique against other 4x games I've played. Is there a stealth bomber type of ship?

I figured that would be the best chance for deepstriking against CPA bunkers with minimal losses, with more durable AI structures setting enabled as well.

When does exactly a Counter Attack timer starts?

First time on difficulty 6 + HRF on quick play right now. I can already tell this is gonna take a while longer. AI is much more on it's toes, actually making use of Warden fleet, and most importantly the counter attack mechanics. Every time I try to neuture some planets to open a path, the counter attack timer starts, I've barely failed to stop the timer twice, and because of that, it's been a seesaw of back and forth land reclamation for a few times. It's definitely more up to par now, but when / how does...

AI War 2 - 5.616 Fixes And Difficulties - And Heart of the Machine Released!!

This one has been a bit longer coming, because I've been slammed with the launch prep for the new game. Everything in here is from Badger and Dismiss, and there's a lot of goodies.

There's been a bug with flagships lingering with a "tractored" debuff in some cases that were really annoying, and that should now be fixed. Big thanks to Dismiss on that.
A couple of fixes to some other edge cases with ships stuck outside the gravity well or regenerating improperly.
Another couple of edge cases with ships losing behavior mode when being loaded into transports and then having that order canceled, and things of that nature. All Dismiss on these items and the above!
Badger has made a number of fixes to the Sidekicks mod factions, most notably the Scourge Empire and Ark Empire.
And then the most exciting feature of all, which had me facepalming that I had not thought of it: Badger has added four new AI Difficulties that can be used with any AI, as part of the Sidekicks mod. (If you have not tried this mod yet, you really should. It's free, and basically a giant DLC4.) Anyway, the general goal of these is both to be interesting, but also to use fewer ships than normal. This is highly valuable for multiplayer games that are large and have a lot of players in them, to reduce the amount of data transferred and otherwise keep things running smoothly. That said, even in solo play, these give a different experience that should be quite interesting.

Reviews are always greatly appreciated, as they really help out. Also extremely cool, there's a new video that shows you some of the time travel shenanigans you can get up to in chapter 3 and onwards of the game. That's 10-15 hours in for most people, so it's nice to be able to see that before you even start the game -- it is very spoiler-lite, and just gives you an idea of what you're in for:

As a final note for this build, let me just say thank you for all the years of support for Arcen in general, from AI War 1 all the way through many other titles to AI War 2, and now on to Heart of the Machine! It means a lot, and I've been so happy to see so many familiar faces from 14, 15, or even 16 years ago for the first time in a while!

Here’s a curious fact: look at the achievements and you'll quickly notice something funny. Only about 20% of players have unlocked even the easiest ones that pop up after ten minutes of gameplay. That means 80% of you bought this strategy gem and immediately decided: "Nah, not today, I have 200 other unplayed games anyway."

I get it. This isn’t exactly the kind of game that greets you with cinematic explosions or eye-candy visuals. The graphics are functional, like my microwave, practical but not winning beauty awards anytime soon. And yes, the UI might initially give you that "did someone spill spaghetti here?" feeling, but trust me, it's quicker to figure out than it looks, especially with the built-in help system ready to guide you (assuming you actually read it).

But jokes aside, the developer has poured genuine care into continuous improvements and expansions. Behind the awkward first impression lies strategic gameplay that can be deeply rewarding if you give it a fair shot. If you're among the majority who bought it but haven’t played yet do yourself a favor, spend at least two hours and see what you're missing. If you don’t own it yet, wait for a sale. It's definitely niche, but it's the good kind of niche.

Just remember: clicking "buy" won't magically grant you achievements. Trust me, I tried.

I loved the first one and I love this one too. There are some things I miss from 1 but in general I prefer the game play of 2; the UI is better, it looks better (and unlike many comments about the graphics I personally find the graphics effective at conveying information and the battles a joy to watch), and many aspects of game play have been streamlined for the better. The learning curve can be steep, as the concepts are likely to be highly novel for a majority of new players--at the very least, they certainly were for me.

If you have stayed away from this game because of the formidable reputation of its predecessor, this second iteration has a lower entry bar on account of UI improvements and the general streamlining of game play referred to above.
