Windows 11 Compatibility Bug Fix — March 2025

What changed:

The latest update fixes a common 'flickering screen' problem on newer Windows 11 computers.
We have seen your comments and workarounds on the message boards and worked to resolve this issue for everyone.

We're so happy that these games continue to bring joy on hardware so far ahead of the time these stories were written!

Potential bug:

In some cases, drivers have been out of date. We recommend updating your drivers. You can find instructions for doing so here: https://www.herinteractive.com/2014/04/graphics-problems/

If this doesn't help, we suggest deleting the d3d9.dll file from the game folder, then launching the game again. You can find the game folder by clicking the gear icon on the game's page in your steam library and selecting manage > browse local files. This will put you in a position previous to this update. We apologize for any inconvenience the update may have caused.

Turtle Puzzle seems broken?

So I'm doing the puzzle with the turtle. I complete the puzzle to the best of my abilities. It looks correct to me, so I back away, resetting the puzzle. Oops. Lemme just do it again. I do the puzzle again. Nothing happens. No "that looks right" no sound, nothing. I double check the hints. I check the solution online, I use all the game's hints. It just shows a completed picture that's the same as my solution for the turtle puzzle. I have the puzzle complete, but nothing is happening. The only thing I c...

Game Crashes After Train Puzzle

I have a Windows 11 Acer laptop, set the game's compatibility to run in Windows 8, and I'm also using dgVoodoo to stop the game's graphics from constantly flickering. As soon as I finish the train puzzle, which is the first puzzle, I try to turn around in-game and it immediately crashes. I've tried running it in different compatibility modes and in windowed mode, but nothing works. Any suggestions?...

Game crashes constantly

every time i try to save the game crash to desktop. while just playing the game i will get a random crash to desktop. I have tried updating the graphics card, running in compatibility mode, running in windowed mode, rebooting the computer, and uninstalling and reinstalling, I'm on a windows 10 machine and i can run every other game fine. Including newer nance titles that are more graphically demanding....
